Oregon Lanesplitting Bill passes - VETO’D!!!

The Governor's veto statement makes it sound like the backers of the legislation didn't have support from law enforcement which, if that is the case, probably doomed the bill. The legislative process allows for multiple attempts so lane splitting/sharing getting close this time helps the case for future attempts in Oregon.

Actually, Oregon Truckers Association had a lot to do with the veto I think.

You should come.

^^Sorry, TWT....I just saw this^^
I would love to go and will someday soon but my new job, new fiancé and new house will be keeping me pretty close to home for a while.
As for the bill veto....CWC but no lane sharing? Don't get me started. So many angles of wrong there. :mad

From my experience with the Governor committee in the 2018 effort they felt it was unsafe because of the lack of the visual and their open wheels,

OHP was not on board back then either. Don't know now but I assume it would be the same.

I heard whisper it will be taken to the floor for an overide vote.
Hope so!

EDIT 2018!

Thanks budman and DataDan for the history and the link to the previous thread.

Hoping it goes to an over ride vote. :thumbup

I was surprised by the veto and that the Governor was swayed by the truckers and possibly OHP?

“As we combat the dangers of distracted, impaired and careless driving, taking away the safety of a full lane of cushion around the motorcyclist doesn’t improve the safety environment in Oregon for motorcyclists,” the committee’s chair, Victor Hoffer, wrote in testimony.

This man has clearly never ridden a motorcycle.

Oregon back to the dark ages. I'm surprised America hasn't caught on with the rest of the world yet.

Sounds like there's a fighting chance that it could pass. I certainly hope so! Houston could benefit from lane sharing, if there's enough participating states!

Idk man, at the same time I kind of see it. For every motorcyclists that appreciates lane splitting, there's a handful of ding dongs going blipettyblappety, revving their motors in a poor attempt to split lanes by trying to get people to peel away to make space.

I mean, it feels bad tho. Wish it had passed.

It wasn't just Oregon State Police who objected. The largest provider of motorcycle training 'Team Oregon' appears to have also opposed it. It is rumored that the powers that be at Team Oregon were heard saying "We have to teach riders the law as it is, not as it may be and this change would require us to revamp our curriculum" or something to that effect. I think that there need to be a a major shakeup at Team Oregon before any line sharing law passes in Oregon.
