Out of State motorcycle - no license plate

It's a 2001 Aprilia SL1000 Falco. I used to own one a few years back, but regrettably sold it. They're pretty tough to find now, especially w/ lower miles and at the asking price of $2,800.00 w/ and advertised as excellent condition w/ major service already performed less than a year ago.

There is also another one on LA Craigslist for about the same price, cleaner, 6K miles, but carries a salvage title due to flood. I'm going to check that one out first, and if I find that it's not running well or smoothly, I was planning to look at this one as backup; otherwise I need to find a flight back to the Bay Area. I spoke to the mechanic that worked on this particular bike and he assured me that the bike is near flawless and that they replaced everything that needed to be replaced to run smoothly.

I've done this type of thing before.

Have the seller send you a copy of the title, his info and call the State DMV where the bike is titled. Explain you want to verify the title and owner info. They will tell you where to email what you have.

They will verify if the info is correct but will not give you any info if it is not.

This has worked for several states.

Unless it was a one-off bike, there will always be another and in better condition than the one you just gotta have.

Don't get too caught up in "rare". Honda Turbos are rare too until you pull out a wad of cash and then they magically turn up in near showroom condition.

I just received the VIN, title, and his DL. He held up the title to the bike to verify it's correct. I ran a VIN report and it looks clean. It doesn't show every year that was registered, but it did show he obtained ownership in 2009 when it had 9K miles. So far it checks out.

I strongly suggest you to get it registered along with the seller in DMV, if not, you may be adding some oil to your head.

So I called the CHP and they advised me to get a temporary moving permit that would allow me to transport the bike that I haven't even purchased, or register it immediately after purchase before riding it. Failing to do either option would result in the bike being impounded if I was pulled over. The nearest DMV is closed Saturdays, so bottom line, I won't be purchasing this one; way too much hassle for what it's worth. Thank you everyone for your input.

I am not sure what does it mean by Transportation here. I got my bike shipped by a service, paid $125 (Fresno to SFO)

Change out transport for ride, as it'll allow me to ride a bike that I have not yet purchased.
