It hit after I'd come off the Bay Bridge, and that portion of mad merging traffic when all cars verge towards 101 southbound.

Gloves felt like they were too loose, about to come off, helmet felt super loose, was it even on my head? Hands couldn't get a grip on the handlebar, or felt like it, no idea how fast I was going, how slow, severe tunnel vision, mad rush of cars I could barely see, complex, confusing, have get out, have to get off this motorcycle NOW...

No idea how I made it over to the slow lane, and the exit, without blindsiding a car, or getting blindsided.

This ever happen to any of you?

sounds dangerous. should try and get that under control before seriously injuring yourself, or others

wow...hope you find help...

a friend suffers from panic attacks and learned to contol it by reduce the amount of food she eats by breakig it down in small amounts per day....less starchy intakes...cut down on caffiene....

or you can slow down the pace, relax while riding, don't try to beat traffic but be ahead of it in a comfortable mode...mighta gotten a sudden surge of adrenaline rush from the commute which could be mistaken as a panic attack...

g'luck..

Yeah, combo of a hangover and tinnitus (an inner ear problem).

can you identify the cause of your panic attacks? Is this something you suffer from or was this an isolated incident caused by the day's traffic being more than you could bear?

Had all that before but only after smoking some serious Chronic after not smoking for years!

I laugh at my panic. Literally.

Fear is the mind killer.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

Only I will remain."

Never anything like that. A long time ago, There were some serious fear situations, in trail riding...like "there is a high probability I'm gona die", but that's different.

It would be very interesting to know what causes this disabling state of mind. So if you find out...it would be valuable info.

can you identify the cause of your panic attacks?

cognitive therapy helps identify thoughts and mental triggers, then teaches you to reshape them for a more reasonable response. It attempts to break your automatic responses, or internal feedback loop.

Of course, any therapist is going to have a lot more knowledge/ideas than I do on the subject.

Panic attacks suck. People who have never had one, can't understand why people can't just relax. I have had two panic attacks and both were after I had surgery. Two seperate surgeries which is what is weird. They are very difficult to get your head around. I would not want to have one while riding. As asked before, have you had them while not riding?

:thumbup

This was where I was heading.

A really good therapist would say..."Riding a 250 in the traffic war zone? Anyone would have a panic attack at some point."

I get panic attacks but usually around people in social situations. The amount of focus and concentration to ride a motorcycle is a form of therapy for me so different triggers if that makes any sense.

But I've been in heavy traffic situations that never seem to end and had to pull over and "check myself" (usually in the summer when its really hot).

So nice to see the sun today I'm going to go for a ride up to Alice's and back right now:ride

Panic attack, no (fortunately! That sounds like it sucks). Happy to see sun, hell yea. Took a quick spin around mt Eden and montebello on my way home from gym this morning. No one else around, and the roads were already dry. Nice start to the holiday. But back on topic, figuring out your trigger for the panic attack is what I'd focus on, then see if you can detect early to get out of harms way earlier, or begin to control (but these kinds of things aren't logical so control may be too ambitious). Note: I'm not a professional in this field, so take my thoughts for the unqualified, well intentioned, forum ramblings that they are :)
