Peloton?

Back in the day when I was living the roommate lifestyle we had a lot of gear in the basement, weights, machines, and four top tier rowing machines. My roommate was a rowing coach. There was always rowers coming and going.
I used those machines maybe twice, just wasn't for me.

i figured if i had dragged the roomie to buy it right after his long day at work then made him set it up, i may as well use the damn thing. then i found that i really liked it.

Were you a rower?

I suffered for hundreds of hours on my trainer, staring at a power number go up and down, or at some on-screen avatar. I did it not because I enjoyed it, but because I wanted to stand on the podium at the next bike race, and I wanted to kick everyone’s ass at the next group ride.

For me personally, having some kind of competitive goal was so crucial to getting me motivated to do the work. It was all absolutely worth it, but it sure did suck. Very much type 2 kind of fun.

Edit: But also, I had a lot of racing buddies that just absolutely hated the trainer and refused to do it. Different paths, all valid.

Hopefully you can place it somewhere so you can leave it out and available so it becomes part of your daily routine.

It gets old fast having to take it out and set it up, then break it down and put it away whenever it’s workout time.
Yeah, we have a MIL unit built into part of the garage. Gonna put it in there.

I can row but definitely wouldn’t call myself a rower, having never competed.
There’s a cool zen about being on a lake early in the morning but I was never much of a morning person.
My favourite cardio would always be cycling, uphill, downhill, flats, woods trails… huge variety you could never get from rowing.

cycling is definitely fun.

i had never rowed but found a $50 machine and ended up really liking how zen it is even when indoors.

Rowing in a shell on perfectly calm water (maybe with a hair of wind chop) is a serene experience.

It is but to be honest floating down a river on an inner tube is way more fun ;)

Especially if you’ve also got an extra inner tube stuffed with an ice chest and filled with ice and cold beers.
