Planning on buying a 1992 ATK 605

He's a really nice guy too! Old school, he takes a lot of pride in his business and loves his Rotax's!

I love my 1994 Atk 605. She is Frikin ballsy in the dirt, and a pleasure on the street. I bought her two years ago, and the maintenance has been minimal. I paid $1500 for mine and it is plated. Your buddy wants too much money for the bike. All parts can be purchased through Keith @ www.americandirtbike.com
Good luck

That is some amazing information. Thanks alot guys.

let us know when you get it!!!!
Then let's take that puppy over FBR :thumbup

The Rotax motor is as sophisticated as a brick. You can do major mods and switch cams in minutes. The gear box is butter smooth. I have ridden one taken all the way out to 675 CC's. It makes for a great short track motor but in the wrong frame. Find a C&J frame or Woods special before you by the ATK. The engine is no comparison to the Priller even with 5K in dollars dropped into it.

I think there are much better options then this old piece of hardware--it will cost you big time just to meet mediocre performance.

ATK ROCKS

I have a plated electric start '94 605 that I bought for $1500 2 years ago. Everything worked. I ordered all parts from keith @ www.americandirtbike.com -- replaced the timing belt, spragg clutch and seal -- way cheaper than i thought it was going to be and way easy to wrench on yourself. I take this bike mostly off road, but it rides smoothly on the street.

One thing is absolutely certain: If you enjoy this bike, then nothing should stop you. You are already familiar and happy. The engine is bullet proof--you cannot go wrong there.

If you buy it, have a great time riding it. You can tickle that engine into all kinds of torque with cams, sleeves and carbs.

Enjoy!!

I have a 1999 ATK 605 and really like it. I've put about 1000 miles on it with zero issues.

I got it for dual sport rides. I had tried a DR650 (too piggie), a plated XR650R (excellent, but the kick starting can be a pain), a KTM 525 (excellent, but too much maintenance when racking up big miles on dual sports).

I really like the low maintenance ... holds ~3 qts of oil and it goes thru the frame so it has a chance to cool off, air cooled (no radiators to mess up, no water pump seals), valve adjustments are far between.

Motoexotica (sp?) is semi-local, has parts, and will work on them if you need it. ATK (the factory) or the guy in LA (American Dirt Bike) also has plenty of parts.

But for that year model and that price it doesn't make sense. If you find a 1999-2002 model with less than 1500 miles, those might bring $2800-$3500. But as soon as you really use the bike, scuff up the engine cases, scratch up the plastics, get 5,000+ miles on them they drop to the $2000-$2500 range.

Did he put motard wheels on it? Would you have motard and stock wheels? That's worth some extra money if so.
