If they had not been bailed, the financial system would have collapsed.

Meh...

I bet a lot of people wouldn't care. And you're not sure it would have collapsed. There's always someone with money to come and dissect your assets and repackage them, or even to keep it going. Even if it was foreign money

You silly, everyone deserves a car and ipod and iphone, it's in the constitution as freedom of speech and assemble. How can you speak without and iphone or assemble without a car?

Clearly. :laughing

I made it through the month with $1063 left. I think I'll start saving for a motorcycle.

made it with 88 bucks left and rent due tomorrow.

of course it's set up to mess with you and put you in a position where you really don't have any options. getting a $9 an hour job cut back by half to below minimum wage isn't legal.

but that's what happens in the real world- people who can't fight get pushed around by employers who cut their wages and take retaliatory actions. sure you can file a claim but those can takes months to process and you need a roof over your head.

there's food banks if you need them- and churches that help with food distribution even if you aren't a member. St Vincent DePaul Society (Catholic) gives food, clothing and home goods to anyone who needs them (they also operate thrift shops), regardless of religious affiliation..or lack thereof, one of the reasons I give to them whenever possible.

there's friends you can stay with. I've never turned down a place to stay to anyone I knew, and needed a place a few times myself when things were very bad for me. you can find a room mate and in addition to keeping bills down you can share babysitting to give the other parent much needed time off.

schools will work with you to arrange meetings before or after school hours if you ask, meaning no lost time from work.

we're on one income right now and no idea how long that will take...I've got self employment leads int he works again, meaning I lose time with my family but you gotta do what you gotta do. with a little luck that wil pan out in the next few weeks. thought I was told I was hired at a job I recently interviewed for, they later offered positions to others, went ahead and started them and had no ability to bring me on board anymore...turned into a "we'll call you when we can get you on the schedule" thing- so I have a "job" I just can't actually perform it. no other resumes or interviews have paid off and it's not for lack of trying. I've got at this point six versions- bc I have to dumb them down for some positions I'm applying for. it's frustrating and demeaning to be told over and over again that you're overqualified for a job. I want to work, I'm willing to get my hands dirty, to put in the hours, to work my way up if there's an opportunity for it but when you can't even get a foot in the door it hurts.

the game is biased in that way in that you immediately get a job. out here it's harder. and it wastes time and resources looking.

we cut back on everything we could, packaged and bundled things we needed into the most practical and affordable ways possible, one adult has health coverage. we have a small but comfortable home, nutritious meals on the table every night, and no debt. we manage all this on a household budget of 1700-1800 per month (including fuel for travel to work and job seeking, laundry off site, all utilities, food, pet food, car renters and life insurance- I will NOT be without these) with NO outside assistance or public programs.

This is why you shouldn't allow yourself to get knocked up if you only have the skills to make minimum wage. Especially if the baby daddy is a loser who will step out on you leaving you to raise a kid on your own.

So what's the lesson supposed to be in this game?

Idontdotrix, I guess in a humorous sort of way he has a point. "Don't allow yourself to become a single mom if you work minimum wage" or something like that, tongue-in-cheek.

Most? Most Americans pay little or no tax. 1% of them pay huge amounts.

If memory serves, 48% pay no tax.

^ :wtf
seriously hope you never end up in a position where you have to make choices that some folks suffer through every day.
and in case you somehow missed basic biology in school, it takes two.

I'm aware of that, but there's steps that can be taken to prevent it. If you aren't active in preventing an unwanted pregnancy, you have no one to blame by yourself.

my gas/electric bill is about 20$ a month each month. in real life. not to mention you can go like a year without paying it before anything happens

abortions arent that expensive...if you cant afford to give the kid and yourself a decent life, dont have the kid. have it when you can...

There are many reasons a woman can end up as a single mother. Grow up.

And there's only a handful of those reasons that deserve any sympathy. All the others are the result of poor decision making.

Cry more.

I wasn't crying to begin with. Just pointing out the fact that everything doesn't happen the way you wished it did in Selfrighteousland.

Some of us have sympathy for those who make mistakes. If you've never made one I'm in awe.

You're completely oblivious of the irony of your selfrighteous accusations, aren't you? :laughing

it's hard to hear you on top of the high horse, talk louder.

People wind up in bad situations for a variety of reasons, many of which aren't their fault, true. And I wouldn't presume to judge those that do. I've been there.

I just question the assumptions that whoever created the simulation made. They add in as mandatory items you don't really need, while ignoring readily available assistance programs. But then, they have an agenda.

In that respect, it reminds me of a phony documentary in a series by Morgan Spurlock where he and his girlfriend tried to live on minimum wage for month. They had to game it and manufacture hardships to achieve the desired outcome.

I have no problem pitching in (in the form of taxes and charitable donations) to help people that are in tough situations cover the basic necessities. But don't use my money to pay your cellphone bill.

They really need to teach basic finance in public schools.
