Plex / NAS / Media Server?

Don't know about that, but the stuff below is what I don't think the WD does:

That makes sense. I've got a boat load a of music and photos, and some docs that I store. It's wonky to create new directories, move and reorganize files. Mostly it's just d a m n e d - s l o w. I'd spent a few hundred to make that nonsense go away.

Are you moving the files with your OS, or via a web GUI on the WD?

I've tried it both ways. It's a bit easier using the OS, but it's still slow. I rebuilt the Index. No improvement. I mean... it works, but it's just tedious.

I would think the web GUI would be faster. The OS may be copying files from one folder to another via your computer, rather than staying within the NAS.

I'm not certain. Either way it takes forever to render thumbnails, so I can see what I'm trying to move.

Andy said it

Increased functionality. I wanted to futureproof myself some. I know of a few projects Im working on that may require some server functionality and Synology is a better scenario for it

I also like the apps that the Synology has available to it and I wasn't seeing the breadth in other products

I also wanted USB 3.0 and finding a NAS that had it was tough (for external backup)
