These cuts didn't seem to have much in common, other than not paying attention to what he was doing. Here's the backdrop:
About 40 years ago, he was hit by a car while crossing the street. Broke both legs badly below the knees; right leg in seven places and the left leg in about 20 (really). This has been the gift that keeps on giving orthopedically. Today he can walk short distances with a cane, but uses a walker much of the time. His legs hurt and his balance is poor.
The first cut happened a week ago, when my stepmom asked him to toss something out of the kitchen door into the garage, so she could dispose of it a bit later. He took the item and tossed it out the door. On the door jamb, there were two square magnets mounted to the door jamb for some reason. They stuck out from the jamb a bit and he raked his had across the corners of the magnets and ended up with two parallel lacerations. I subsequently removed the magnets.
The second cut was from part of his walker. I have no idea how this happened. I can't think of how one would cut themselves on any part of the walker, but I'll see them tomorrow and maybe someone can show me.
I think that his attention gets pulled into just keeping his balance and some of these other things happen because he can't quite walk and chew gum at the same time any more.
