Oof.. yeah. I immediately washed my hands with antibacterial soap and applied gauze to stop the bleeding. It's been a few hours and I just took the bandaids off and cleaned it with peroxide.

I picked her soon as I saw her. The pound worker asked if I wanted to see the other cats also, “Nope I’ll take this one”.

Exacrly. My doctor made me see the light. Mine happened at 3:30 in the morning and Eric urged me to go see my Dr later that afternoon and I shrugged it off. I told him I’d go if it got worse, and he said that’s the point, you don’t want it to get worse. I called to make an appointment the next day because of course it got worse. Doctor breezes in, looks me in the eye and says “I heard you got scratched by your cat?” I told her it was the bite I was concerned about. She looked down, saw my hand, and her expression changed dramatically. She says “Um, yeah…so, in the future if you get bit by your cat just come in and see me right away, you don’t need to make an appointment, ok?” A few days later I was in there again when it was getting worse instead of better and she was discussing IV antibiotics. I got the message.

That’s surprising cause I’ve had a few people since tell me if I ever don’t want her they’ll take her. Obviously not gonna happen.

But she did look rough when I first saw her, scrawny and shaved, so maybe not a big surprise she got passed over. The eye contact sold me. She stared for what seemed unusually long while i petted her head almost like saying “get me out of this place”.

The gf barely gave her a second look and walked off to see the other cats and was surprised when I said I found what I was looking for. For the first few days she actually wanted me to take her back but now is infatuated with her.

I think the cat remembers who choose her, she’s only comfortable with me picking her up. I keep telling the cat in front of the gf “do you remember who didn’t want you?” Which gets some grumbling and a “do you have to keep telling her that?” response :laughing

No. It's not that simple.

Simply, imagine taking the nastiest, germ ridden, most infected needle and sticking it in to your arm or hand.

The issue with the cat bites is that they are penetrating wounds, and they go deep. Typically outside the efficacy or an antibiotic ointment or disinfectant. That's why you want to get the antibiotics.

My cat has only bitten me once, and that was years ago when he was in a very dark place. However, he's not a big fan of restraint. He does not readily go into the cat carrier. That's an adventure we actually avoid, but he's due to go in for his annual. We're just dreading doing it.

We don't even make an appointment for him, because there's simply no guarantee we can keep it. If the carrier encounter goes bad, well, he's gone for the day.

But in those cases, I will take precautions to avoid a cat bite (gloves typically, among other things). I don't want to have to go to urgent care again.

Well she is a lustrous and gorgeous beast now so she has thrived in your care.
 
Waiting to hear back from my doctor, but the hand looks better today, no redness or anything. I took some ibuprofen to help with soreness.

My cat was hard to get into the cat carrier also so I upgraded to a dog carrier with an open top. She can’t even reach the sides of the opening so you can drop her right in with no resistance.
Best of all the dog carrier folds up to take up less space than the cat carrier when not in use.
