Depending on how much space you have, and how active you are a Rhodesian Ridge Back might be a good choice. They are an awesome dog, loyal, friendly, and have almost none of the issues that other large dogs have (see: bloat and Hip/joint issues). The only issue is they are a little hard headed when they get older, so get one as a pup and train it then. Oh, and they come stock with a Mohawk...

Plus they were bread as lion hunters and can handle extreme heat and extreme cold.
