Privacy? Not so much with Family Tree Now

I got a laugh out of it. It covers records searchable, so the first forty years of my life ain't there. :laughing

Is it illegal to look up public records? I'm confused how this is a breach of publicly available info.

I might not want someone to know my phone number but it doesn't make the phone book a breach of privacy

A couple of my false identities are on there, but that's OK; I quit using them several years ago.

lol, but if you opt out, it confirms their info on you is correct....... that database is even more valuable then the displayed one

How so? I opted out and the info they had for me was pretty inaccurate.

What are we arguing about exactly? :wtf

Just put your name and city into Google and see all the companies that come up. You'll have to opt out of each one. Beware that some of them have a clause saying something like "If in the future we find new info about you, we reserve the right to create a new profile on you"

Unless there's a law that somehow classifies our personal data as classified or top secret then I'm confused what the legal issue is.

Meh, all they seem to have is my old addresses and a few relatives names. The few non family members they had listed as associates were wrong, and they have my 78 year old mother listed, even though she died when she was 61...

BTW, opting out is useless. The underlying data is still out there and lots of sites have it aggregated already.

Want to know where a judge lives? The names of the mayor’s kids? The home addresses and ages of some former county sheriffs?
Already know that information, but that site matches the info I have. Thanks anyway.

Public records are public records. Get over it.
