Problem with my Husky 610?

The cam chain will definitely be replaced, I should go by the shop and take some pics of the damage.

I know the previous owner has good intentions, and I have ZERO reservations on buying another used bike (Just picked up a used SV650 2-weeks ago)

The only thing I would have done differently about buying this husky was to read about the previous owner's problem with the CCT *before* purchase -- but thats not really all that feasible on other bikes, as people could have all sorts of problems and to find any posting history on a bike you're interested in, is pretty impossible.

Regardless, the clues were there, and I didn't use good judgement in researching it.

:wow

SV650 to keep you occupied while the Husky is in the shop?

Yeah, something like that. I don't like to ride the Duc to work cuz it is just to damn uncomfortable..

However, I would gladly trade my SV for another DRZ! :blush

Alex--in two weeks, we ride again! :cool

Looks like i'm nearing the end of this epic battle.

Just got a call from Tom (mechanic) and didn't speak a single word.. He just said, listen to his: and I heard for the first time in 2-months, my bike running!!

He says if all goes well, I should be able to pick it up tomorrow, but of course, i'll be out of town this weekend :-(

Grand total?

He's still adding things up, but it's around $1200-$1600. I'll know the final figure at the end of today.

What a nightmare this whole ordeal has been.

That doesn't sound, so bad.

G'luck in the future. :thumbup

Wow. This brings back memories of my experience with exotic SMs.

I bought Andrew's (Thump's) KTM 640 SM right after he got it out of the shop (Moore & Sons, Tom Dillenbeck mechanic) after the main bearing failed just past the warranty period. KTM at first refused to cover it, then IIRC they paid 1/2 of the $2000 bill.

I figured that since it had just been gone through by a KTM dealership with a good rep that the motor should be solid.

I rode it for a couple weeks and BAM... cylinder head cracked and it started sucking coolant into the combustion chamber.

Back to Moore & Sons, another $1300 down the drain, this time out of my pocket.

I decided that KTM was way too expensive a neighborhood to live in, so put it up for sale. I sold it to High Speed Harry with full disclosure of the bike's sordid past as I knew it.

Harry loved the bike and it performed well for him (and he for it, for that matter), although shortly after he bought it the automatic compression release died, so he had to start it using the manual one.

I also had cooling system problems with a Ducati 851 I bought lightly used (appx 1K miles).

I will never buy another exotic (and as exotics go, KTMs are pretty reliable). If I buy another motorcycle (and yes, right now I am saving up for a transportation bike), it will be Japanese and vanilla.

Buying a USED exotic with no warranty, even from a trusted member of the community, is a real gamble.
