PSA for all you DuPont Teflon chain lube lovers...

I hate shopping at Walmart too but they frigging carry mobil 1 mx4t for a little over 9 bucks a quart and valvoline full synthetic motorcyle oil for 7 bucks a quart. I cant justify the prices at the motorcycle stores.

I use both regularly and honestly never noticed very much of a difference between the two at all. I would go with the yellow and see if you do.
 
I've been using the yellow can for years, am perfectly happy with it.

My chain tension never needs adjusting, and my links are clean and rust-free (bike stored outside during the summer).
 
Arrrghhh...just picked up a can and had no idea- and in fact noticed two different versions of the packaging and wondered why it was like that. Have to go check it now, thanks for the heads up!
 
General question. How often do you guys lube with the Dupont stuff? I've notice maybe because of its dry application I'm having to lube much more frequently.

So far i taken onto mixing Dupont stuff with PJ One Blue Label and it works great and lasts quite a bit longer, with no fling-off.

Nothing. Let them keep buying the snake oil.

Getting 35k out of the chain so I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Have 2 cans of unused DuPont teflon stuff on the work bench.
 
My personal habit is lube every couple hundred miles (which is once or sometimes twice a week for me) and clean and lube the chain every 1000 miles (~monthly for me)

Gave the DuPont multi-use stuff an extended mileage test on the Bandit and in the end didn't care for it. It was clean and didn't fling but seemed to do nothing to extend the life of the chain beyond its normal mileage. So I tried it on my mountain bike and it seemed to sludge up the chain more than what I was using previously. Eventually I gave up on it.
 
For me, it was always more about the convenience than about extending chain life vs. other lubes. The DuPont stuff doesn't leave a huge mess all over the wheel and keeps the chain nice and clean even when riding in the dirt or rain. I lubed the chain every ~300 miles, and cleaned it ~1,000.

I also tried it once on a bicycle chain, and it's horrible in that application. Bicycle chains need to flex laterally to allow crisp shifting, and the teflon film got between the plates and didn't let the chain flex as needed. I don't think this stuff was ever meant for bicycle chains.
 
Bummer. This was my lube of choice. Every ~300 miles or after any rain. Had chains/sprockets last about 10k mi on my R6 (520 allow sprocket and x-ring chain), mostly street use.

Sure enough I bought the "new and inferior" version. Thankfully I had a stashed full can of the old stuff too! :party
