Question regarding weaving to warm your tires

:rofl

*insert apocalypse picture here*

Damn, Dave, you're on a roll today!!! :laughing :thumbup

Pretty much this.

OP, we just had that thread... please don't make it "chicken strips, part deux"... it won't end well... :facepalm

Damn you people. Let us have our fun.

Pics of the tires, yes, but first post some of your girlfriend, so we can decide if she's hawt or not.

Later, we'll discuss what kind of oil you should be using, when to use your highbeams, when to stunt, if helmets are safe, why the sv650 is a girls bike, and what's the best brand of Depends to match our GS's.

The law in the state of California says you have to remain within your it never stiplutes what portion of the lane you are allowed to use as long as you stay in your lane he has no reason to pull you over.I was once pulled over for leaning over too far? I asked the officer to show me in the Vehicle code what the exact acceptable lean angle was he had no idea he just didnt care for me touching my knee on the roadway. I some times weave out of boredom when forced to ride slow in traffic. Its my dam lane I pay taxes on it and ill use every inch of it if I want to.

It's dumb and I still see stupid squids doing it at the base of the 9 all the time. It's a technique developed in auto racing. It only works in auto racing :p

I do it just to get comfortable with the bike before I start my Track 9 Laps.

Friction creates heat, and tires warm once you begin riding. The few pro races I've seen, when the riders get up and take tire warmers off they immediately start weaving. I know street tires warm fast and don't necessarily have to be warm but I would rather be safe.

The friction between the road and the tire can create some heat, but it's nothing compared to the heat produced by the flexing of the tire itself, more specifically, the side walls. Thus, accellerating and braking really doesn't do anything more than the weaving does. So don't bother. And since a large portion of the heat comes from sidewall flex, that means the edges of the tire come up to temp faster than you might think.

And it's all moot on the street. If you're riding so hard and fast on the street that you need every last tiny bit of traction your tires can give, you're suicidal.

I just want to know why new tires are so slippery if they stopped using mold compound. Because they are.

Post the tires pics dammit.

What Brand/Model tires are you using? I don't find my Pirelli/Metzeler tires to even need scuffing,
as brand new...or any time later.

Metzelers (I use Tourances) tend to be slick until scrubbed.

Where as the conti attacks I had have this marketing speak attached (and actually did not feel as slppery when new)
Traction Skin provides an extremely safe and short tire break-in. This is possible due to the revolutionary raw tread surface, which is the result of a new mold coating technology which eliminates the need for tire-release agents

Is this just marketing speak and do I imagine the new tire's slickness?

??? Never slick for me...not the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's I used to use or the Metzerer Roadtec Interact Z6's I used last year or the Z8's that are on there now.

All I can go by is my experience's...And it's been No slip.

"The next myth we see perpetuated nearly every time we watch the warm-up lap to a race. Riders begin weaving back and forth in apparent attempt to scuff the tread surface (which we've already discounted) and generate heat. The reality is that, according to every tire engineer that I've asked, there are far more effective ways of generating heat in a tire that are also much safer. Rather than weaving back and forth-which does little in the way of generating heat but does put you at risk asking for cornering grip from tires before they're up to temperature-you're far better off using strong acceleration and braking forces, and using them while upright, not leaned over! Acceleration and braking forces impart far more flex to the tire carcass, which is what generates the heat that then transfers to the tread compound as well (you often see Formula 1 cars weaving violently back and forth because automobile tires operate on a horizontal plane, so they have and use significant sidewall flex to generate heat)."
