Quick and lazy way to dice up food?

I agree with you completely - but I tried answering the OPs question with the answer I felt best he wanted to hear.

He specially asked for a Quick and Lazy method - a chef's knife is neither for a beginner. A chef's knife takes practice to get good at. There are techniques learned and developed when learning how to best use a chef's knife.

fwiw my mom, a 35+ year chef - has never used a "chefs knife" in her life and is terrified of it due to it's size and therefore associated risk. I've bought her numerous knives and yet, they sit in a drawer. She uses normal home kitchen knives because when she learned to cook, that's what they used and that's what she's used since day 1.

I remember in 8th grade after being expelled... I called my mom and asked her to bring home more eggs because I had curdled the hollandaise sauce I made for breakfast... 8th grade :laughing

But as always BARF does what BARF does best :thumbup

I do my best to add candor, squalor, and conversation ;)

ahem..uh...you have a mom? that can cook?:teeth

good. shut up and cook, bitch.:laughing

I got to meet Gordon Ramsey a few years ago and that's almost what he said. I asked him, when you have a family and you have a job... how?

he said, shut up and cook. If it's important to you - you will find a way and often it involves... shutting up and cooking ;)

good luck :thumbup

I use a knife. It's not that much work. Spend the money on something decent that holds an edge.

:laughing

9 minutes - you're right no such thing as a short minute but there is increasing your efficiency. Doing more in 1 minute than others

unwrapping chicken - if that's your approach :thumbdown

I rinsed, deboned, skinned, and slivered 2 breast; tossed it in fresh basil, mint, rosemary, thyme, shallots, olive oil, lemon, and garlic.

Ignore these guys and their penny-anti details.

Can I come over for dinner???? I'll bring the beer. :love

Thanks for all the help guys. Sorry this had to turn in to a typical KS poo flinging contest :laughing

I did want to iterate the quick and lazy part because my dicing skills are non-existent; I'm slow and I can't dice it to the small sizes needed for sammies and omelettes without taking time. This will just make me not want to cook lol.

I have a new job coming up and my commute will be insane. I don't want to spend time dicing and cutting if I don't need to. I'd rather be spending it to recharge.

slap chop

no joke

Cuisinart/OXO all have similar

LOL good point. I usually gym after work, get home by 830ish, cook and eat by 930-10... digest and watch some tv to unwind.

I might just take a day to dice up a shit ton of stuff and just package it for the week.

What about a mandolin slicer, it's very handy.

I've got a food processor, great device, but more for smaller chops; was given a Zyliss chopper, but didn't really care for it and cleaning the food processor is easier. There's lots of mandolin slicers out there, some of them very cheap and flimsy....feels like it may slice your fingers off. Found a decent Oneida one that was inexpensive and has gotten a good share of work.

You may be mincing them, rather than dicing.

Matt can come in in a short minute and give more details and official descriptions.

+1 that's the cheapest and simplest method. if you're a single person, that's all you need. You're not making massive quantities, so using a "chop machine" is more work than it needs to be, because you have to take it apart and clean it after only making, how much, one handful of stuff? :laughing Unless you're making breakfast and lunch as well.
