Kind of curious about the major differences between the R6, and its brother the R6's. When ever someone post an R6 on the classifieds with no pics, there is always a big fuss about whether or not it is the regular or "s" series. Thanks for the help,

- Ghost

s has different suspension and i think the engine is detuned a bit

the r6s is the r6 of 2003 and before. clip ons above tirple clamp, non upside down forks.

Bodywork's different, right up the headlights. Chassis' also different; forks, frame, sub-frame, swingarm. Exhaust system too.

They're practically two different bikes.

Lots of info here.

So basically its the dumbed down version of the R6 from what i have read...

In a sense, yes, it is the R6's dumbed-down cousin. That said it exists for a clear purpose- it meets a price point lower than the R6, and it is more comfortable than the R6.

R6s: Better street bike;

R6: better race bike.

Where do you ride?

Triple

Both, do track days and also commute

I'll share you a little secret. Win on Sunday, break down on Sunday and have to ride the bus to work on Monday. Have two bikes :)

If you're looking at buying a R6, you can afford 2 bikes- even two decent bikes. Get some kind of normalish street 600 for commuting for $2k, and get a good platform like a SV650 or a EX250 for track for another $2k :thumbup

I like the SV so much hopefully I can do both with it.

yep except that's pre-2005 (2004 included); they spilt ways in 2006. Another difference is the r6s has a 120/60/17 front tire ( although going to a 120/70/17 makes the bike even better with the proper suspension adjustment). Much easier to change fork oil on the non inverted, standard forks of the R6s.:) 2005 was the weird year...it was really an R6s yet it had the inverted forks and 120-70 front tire of the new R6.

agree. however there was a great article in Cycleworld a few years ago showing that a modified 2003r6s actually outperformed a 2007 stock R6 in most std head to head shootout stats. But the 2008 on R6 can't be touched in comparison to even a modded r6s.

As said prior, 06/07 R6s is just a 2003-2004 model r6.

They sold in parallel to the newer bodied r6 chassis.

Remember when the 2003 R6 came out and it was the "fastest bike" Remember when the Pilot power came out it was the "best performance tire"

Now the R6s with pilot powers is a great "beginner bike" But is now shit.

Who are these people.

The R6S is NOT detuned, but it IS slightly older tech and was created when supersports were not pure track tools. It was the best of the best in 2003 (and again in 2005 with the new fork, tire, throttle bodies, brakes, and rear link). The modern R6S has the chassis of the 03/04, and the engine of the 05. If you have never ridden a supersport or faster bike, it will be terrifyingly fast at first.

It is more comfortable, torquier, and (unlike detuned bikes) equal in weight to the R6. It has lower peak power, less aggressive rider positioning, and slightly less sharp handling (though still extremely quick, and AS quick if you set up the suspension). At a trackday (rather than a race) it is essentially equal to any modern 600.

Blah blah blah blah Worse in the only way that matters blah blah blah... Right? :laughing

I've owned both. Both are as different as night and day.
