okay, so i just passed the written test today over at the dmv, the wait line wasn't long, which was weird " i was number g136 and they were already at g131". :wtf and then i got 1 question wrong for the car test and 2 wrong for the motorcycle portion :cool the car question was

-all of the following are dangerous while driving which is also illegal?
a-wearing a headset that covers both ears
b-having one or more interior lights on
c-using cruise control on residential streets

answer was A for those trying to test them selves :p

and the motorcycle was

1-picture below riders a,b, and c are riding as a group to pass, rider b should
a- complete the pass in front of rider a
b-return to the lane and ride next to rider a
c-return to the right portion of the lane behind rider a

answer- C

2-when carrying loads
a-keep the load low and as far forward as possible
b-keep the load to the rear of the motorcycle
c fasten the load against the frame on the back of the seat

answer-A

Congrats on passing your tests.

One final Q&A:

Motorcycles melt in rain:

a) true
b) false

It's not raining right now, according to my hyperaccurate Window 3000 Weather Monitoring Device.

uhhh c? :teeth haha nah its that i heard its bad to get your leathers wet. and im still scared bout the slippery, oil soaked, roads

Roads are fine...you should be going slow to start anyway.

Get out there and ride some.

Leathers get heavy and slimy when they're wet. My gear is still drying out from the ride home today.

But: if you have some mink oil or dubbin; it'll help keep the leather from absorbing the water.
If you're lazy and want faster water repellant: you can use a silicone spray (like Jigaloo)

You could get a good set of waterproofs that will go over the leathers for about $50. Well worth the investment.

Being wet AND cold on the motorcycle sucks.

Being wet AND cold AND above the arctic circle on a motorcycle really sucks.:twofinger

Since you're a newbie, I think it's a good idea not to head out into the rain right away. Especially since we haven't really had enough rain to wash all the slippery stuff away as of yet.

Once you become more comfortable riding, by all means get some wet weather riding in. It's currently raining in San Jose and I'm looking forward to the ride home. It's a whole 'nuther way of riding, but I enjoy rainy rides. My Aerostich keeps me warm and dry and I've always kinda liked going out in the rain anyway. One of my favorite things to do when I was a real little tyke was to get dressed up in my big yellow rain coat and galoshes and go splashing through the flooded gutters in my neighborhood. Way fun.

The only thing I hate about riding during rainy seasons is when it has rained, the roads are still wet, but it's not raining while I'm riding. Cause then all the cars kick up the dirt from the ground and there's not rain to wash it off my visor. :mad

Other than that, I have no quips about riding in the rain.

It's true. Entire herds of cattle have to be thrown out after a good storm. :teeth

When I had about a week under my belt, I did the stupid (in hindsight) thing, and took a trip up several very steep, twisty roads the morning after a hard rain, solo. It was good practice.

With a few more weeks, I got caught at night in a downpour, having to go home from a movie theater. Again, good practice.

I wouldn't have voluntarily chosen to do either (at the time, I wasn't aware of the piss-poor condition of mountain roads after a hard rain) looking back on it, but it was definitely a learning experience.

These days, I commute in the stuff. :)

Rain is nature's way of getting everyone else off the road for you. :ride

Definitely only do it when and as you feel comfortable doing it. But I wouldn't recommend avoiding it at all costs forever.

Heck, if I had decided to drive to work today, I probably would have missed the giant rainbow in San Jose as the sun decided to come out just before it set.

I second the mink oil. I keep a tin handy, and give my leathers a good rub down every so often. I like the smell, so it's an added bonus. :)

Besides, do you want all those minks to have been squeezed in vain?!

thats the exact reason why im not out there haha, but mark my words, the second the road drys up, ill be out there and prob be in a parking lot going over the stuff i learned at my MSF class.

which prob wont be any time soon. i heard its gonna be raining in san jose for the rest of this week :cry

why don't they ever ask the important questions that reflect situations encountered by ducati riders on those tests like:

your motorcycle is red with a black frame and your leathers are black.
which colour shirt should you wear.
a. red
b. blue
c. yellow

you pull up to a café and see three hotties sitting in front.
you want to get the hottest one without offending the others. do you
a. pull up, zip your jacket down half way and just stand there next to your bike.
b. forget to put your sidestand down
c. talk to the two others mainly and act disinterested in the mega-hotty at first.

Or:
d. Buy each of them a caffe mochachinodoublelatte and suggest a foursome.

For riding in the rain, I bought a pair of gloves at a Hardley dealership that have a windshield wiper on the left index finger. Works great, but I've never seen a HD out in the wet.

I am one of the first to smack talk people about rain riding, but...

..take your time. Worry about the rain next season.
