We are trying to hire a videographer for a 4hours event at work but I am no idea about the rate. Does $600 seems good (editing included)?

I'm not clued in to prevailing rates, but that seems pretty reasonable to me. Probably well under $100/hr all told.

My thought would be that if you care enough to pay someone for it, focus more on the quality of their portfolio than their rate at first. Better to pay a bit more for something you're happy with than get a good rate on low quality work. And quality does indeed vary, both on acquisition and editing.

If editing is included, that's a steal.

Typical bay area videographer day rates are between $400-$800. Up to $1200 if union labor is required. Your proposal sounds like 1.5 days of work.

We just need the shots since I'll do the editing/color grading. We just need someone, for 4 hours, to take the shots.

Thanks!

Guy came in and made a video about my company. Shot around the office, lab, & shop for about 6 hours. Edited the video into something slick. The bill was about $5k.

Generally, you pay day rates for anyone who knows their shit. $600 is a decent price for a videopgrapher, equipment not included.

We finally used this website: http://thumbtack.com

We got different quote from really good photographer (amazing portfolio).

And you can apparently ask a quote for anything.

Wish we could pay 5k, but this is tax payers money (not US).
