RC Plane - Aerial Bomb Drops!

There was a reason why the Memphis Belle was so important and why the 8th suffered more combat casualties then the entire USMC during the course of the war. Thank god for the Mustang!

Good call, the bravery those 8th AF aircrews exhibited was stunning, because those daylight raids were absolutely brutal. Respect.

I can happily say the Brits I met who remembered those days were eternally grateful. In fact I once met a member of the Luftwaffe who exhibited admiration for what the 8th did during those difficult days.

:laughing that's awesome. And what, like $35 for the plane itself?

Depends. You could probably build one "all up" for under $100. Some of those guys planes are in the $500+ area though. Crazy bastids... :laughing

But most of the electronics and stuff are gonna be re-usable after the crash, right?

I've almost gotten into RC planes a couple of times, and the price tag always scared me away. Still looks like a lot of fun. Is this Baylands in Sunnyvale off of 237?

Yup, thats the place. :thumbup And again, depending on how bad you take a hit, most of your items should be good enough to salvage. Hell I've seen a few people show up with 2 or 3 full bit kits, minus electrics... Take a good crash and be back in the air in 10-20 minutes. :cool

Here's pics of what my Slowstick did to an "Wattage EP400".. He had decided to cross the field, without calling it out first, as I was looking out of inverted flight (yes, with a slow stick damn it!).. His wing time clip'd my main fuselage.. All I suffered was a broken battery rubber band, I use 3m velco tape - like used in IT rooms for cables as extra security.. With damn good reason! :teeth

Nice. Looks like fun. When do you guys usually go out there?

Funny, my last job was right next to an RC field too (at Nummi in Fremont)

That would be Bayside R/C. :teeth I don't fly planes currently. I'm stuck in the R/C Heli phase right now.. But usually every saturday they are there.

You could check on BayRC.com in the forums to see if people are planning on heading out there.

SUCKER!!!

There are some great CHEAP simulators. While their graphics aren't as stunning, and controls not as accurate... They WILL help you decide to justify the purchase price of $150+ software or a $100+ plane setup.

I didn't buy a sim yet so there. :twofinger What do you recommend for a hobbyist that has years of RC electric and nitro car experience but wants to get into sailplanes? :nerd

www.bayrc.com - Check the forums classifieds.. There's ALWAYS someone selling a kit at a good price there. :nerd

They should use flour instead of water. It's more stable in flight and would produce better 'splosions.

um.... yeah... great idea.... NOT!

want to see how quickly a Haz-Mat team can shut down an entire city after the first neighbor calls in an aerial terrorist strike with a white powdery substance??

:shocker

8th Air Force--1
Krauts--0

Remember that. :laughing
Saturation helps too. Little more to a payload in a B17 then just a single water balloon :laughing

My grandfather was a Flight Engineer and turret gunner on B24's. He was a part of the D-Day invasion, he was shot down over France and hiked his way back to finish his missions.

And he was no more special then all the rest of the people who were there.

Reminds me of the Anthrax scare at Coast Guard Island years ago. They were having a drill and an envelope was to be delivered at a certain time to a certain room at a certian building. Well, some certain person delivered it to the building next door (my building, where we specialize in hazmat response and anti-terrorism) and everyone went into a panic. My friend and I put on our respirators and such to take care of it, but they wouldn't let us :laughing

Seems they did a great job of informing the neighbors about their drill. :laughing

This is our government we are talking about.

Oh, and it was the people that ran the drill that paniced more then my unit :laughing

Since I don't see anything else to say otherwise, turbine powered?

I have a facination interest in those little turbines. I have worked on bigger ones, about my size. And I have worked on even larger ones, about 747 engine size) but nothing that tiny!
