Anybody know if the number below the year on CA registration stickers is tied to the vehicle it was meant for? I ask because I seem to have misplace my current reg sticker, but I've got one laying around from a car that doesn't ever leave the garage. Is there any crime in using the car sticker on the bike, and when I find the bike sticker, put it on the car?

Yes the registration sticker is issued to a specific vehicle and it is a crime to use it on another vehicle; even if its owned by you. Subject to a ticket and the registration tab being confiscated.

Ok, thanks for the info. Spent the last 4 hours looking for the sticker to no avail. Guess I'm off to DMV in the morning.

It doesn't cost that much for a replacement sticker. I had to get one once when I couldn't find the one I was supposed to put on. It didn't cost that much to replace. Of course, I found the other one within a week of getting the replacement. :|

But then again, how often that little number gets checked...

The tow and impound fee will cost more than the 12 dollars and 6 hour wait at the DMV.

You can play the "I didn't know" card, but your likelihood of getting out of it (if for whatever reason they do check) is a crapshoot.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

The sticker# matches the a number on the registration slip.

If they don't match when asked by the popo it looks bad :mm4l, very bad. :Bap

Go to a AAA office (provided you have a membership, the the AAA office does DMV registration stuff there)

You can get this taken care of in 5 minutes.

Good call on AAA Stan. I always forget about them. Anyways, I found the sticker today so I'm gtg!! Thanks for the input everybody.

Anybody know the difference between regular registration stickers that have the entire year printed on them Versus ones that have the seal of california in place of the 20 and then have the last two digits of the year (15) next to it? I tried to get a photo but no luck yet as I am in traffic when I see it.

My buddy and I at one point had about 12+ street legal vehicles with tags constantly rolling in. However we only regularly use.....3 or 4 so tags and registration cards just stacked up in a drawer. We just grab one and slap it on the plate when we notice it's expired and need to hit the road (registration paid up but never took the time to put the sticker on when it arrived in the mail). Never had a problem with it but other than the numbers not matching, our stuff is legit. Cops have never actually came close enough to actually check the numbers on the stickers

That is for people who mail it in, I believe. It has the license plate printed on it.

The bolded part makes your story useless, though. Just because you didnt get caught doesnt make it sound advice for the OP.

But...WHY?? Why would it matter so much to have 2 designs if someone mailed/online or went to the office????

My stickers have always been the same and I've had many mailed to me and quite a few that I picked up at a DMV office.
