Remember the original hot hatch?

80's?

Poor man learned to love the Omni Shelby GLH turbo.

or any of the boosted 2.2L common block engines. dad had the "Laser" in 84, I've owned Daytonas of 86 and 87 vintage. Only had to sell the 87 Shelby Daytona a little over a year ago...still wishing I could have done the turbo II swap into a decent Rampage body...and missing my CS Rampage I never had the money to finish-at least they both went to good homes.

btw, anyone bitching about "torque steer" needs to turn in their man card. :p

And I have never been on a track on a bike.
I'm sure both of us would recommend the other to try it.
Four wheels squeeling around a corner at near 100 MPH is definitely an experience. (yes on purpose)

I believe the 16v was the first year they had red, instead of that ugly orange\red which my '85 was painted.

My MkIII was nowhere near as fun, but I got it on track.

Gone but not forgotten: 1992 GTI, 1998 GTI, 2004 R32, 2008 GTI.

I really enjoyed driving these and have some really fond memories of my time with them. There will come a time when I'll be ready to look for another MKII GTI as a project.

Anyone driving front wheel drive "sports" cars needs to turn in their man card. :twofinger

we make sports cars out of what we can afford or are given. Checkbook performance is for weenies :p
