I would like to remove an unruly Avocado tree. It's big for a fruit tree but is medium size, maybe twice the height of a single story house. Just barely bigger than what I would consider doing myself. 20 years ago I would have...

What would be a reasonable price? The first guy quoted $4k which seems high to me.

If anyone knows a good service I'd entertain, or I have a random coupon for $500 off.

I just had my avocado tree removed in the East bay for $1000 haha. 2 stories tall. The guy hauled everything in pieces away with his big truck

This is the ballpark for removals, depending on access and obstacles. You can negotiate the price down by having them leave the wood. It’s decent firewood. Pics would help. My experience is that when people say they have a “large” tree, it’s really not. You (OP) say medium tree size, so $800-1200 for total removal and a good clean up is reasonable.

Share a contact to a Bro, he might be willing to help CTWO out.

Yes I think 800 to 1000 is right. I got a guy here in El Sob but it’s too far from SJ. Fuel. We entertained several bids and this guy was half the smooth talker from Marin. I would think an avo tree would be easier than oaks and other deciduous varieties.

i'm super envious of all my neighbors with avocado trees, been trying to get one to prosper in my yard for years so :p for taking them out

that said $4k seems high, $1k sounds like you are expecting them to get it finished in 20 minutes and dump the wood on the side of the freeway

A two story avocado tree sounds like heaven.

I don’t agree that it’s a price for sleazebags to dump shit. Trees reduce incredibly in the chippers and city or regional waste facilities generally have composting dumps. That’s where my wood waste went. Dirt is another story. That is hard to get rid of.

according to my neighbors who have a similarly sized one over their hot tub, guacamole raining down for ~2 weeks 2x year gets old. i don't believe them

I'm willing to bet the tree was these first, in which case the issue isn't the tree. :laughing

falling avocados are no joke. they're still hard. The only guac made from a falling 'cado is from someone's crushed head lol.

I get mine trimmed down to ~1 story every other year. they grow like crazy at least where I'm at.

Orchards of them in Morro Bay, low rain years the aquifier would dry out, farmers would trim back the tree to a white stump. This may work for you, cut it back/lower it, managable.

another neigbbor, not the hot tub guac ones, has an avocado tree. ~2 years ago they cut ALL the branches off of it. i was horrified because some of those branches were starting to overhang my yard which means i can easily, and legally, take the fruit. i had the sadz

now the tree is doing fine and looks about the same as it did before the de-limbing. they're pretty resilient it seems once you get them established.

They're gonna cut it again as soon as it reaches near your yard. :laughing
