Republic Services private employees strike

Normal Cluster F in Stockton. Everyone's cans at the curb since Tuesday. Wednesday email from HOA to please put your cans behind the fence until the strike is over. Later the same day email from the City telling everyone to leave their cans out and they will be picked up ??? All us old retired folks just left the cans out. Most of the people still working put the cans up. Well a truck came by and picked up the garbage can. Still have the Green and Recycle cans out, who know when they will be picked up. Many people getting how from work finding out their garbage cans did not get picked up.

Seems I am very pro striker vs. strikeeeee in this case.

Sorry it is affecting you guys, but a little more shared scrilla needs to be some shared pain I suppose. :flag

I've never been happy about paying Recology before.
Weird.....

Exactly. 29/hour, times 8 for an 8 hour day, times 5 for a week, times 52 weeks in a year, equals 60,320/year.

Yes, very good. An even simpler method is to just double the hourly for the yearly salary / cut the salary in half for the hourly rate.

Still unsure why you felt the need to break down the wage from yearly salary to hourly, though. Was it to imply that $29/hr is more than enough to pay someone to drive a garbage truck for a living?

Daly City here. Haven't had my garbage picked up in a few days. Luckily my household doesn't put out too much waste but my some of neighbors bins have been stacking up.

Someone here was talking about a job that pays only 29/hour. I was just pointing out that’s not much.

Not mad at the strikers, i won't cross a picket line. I'm mad at the workers in other cities not on strike doing work stoppages in support of the strikers. Fuck em

I will not at all begrudge them for showing support with work stoppages. It helps draw greater attention to the issue.

As a Daly City renter and strike/worker supporter, Republic wasn’t much interested in my calls. I hope those of you who pay the bills gave them hell! My whole street is renters in four-family buildings on both sides. There were a LOT of cans out on the street, but nobody really complained and we were all out there stomping them down and mostly kept things tidy. The houses down some of the other streets, surprisingly, let their trash float all over. It was a pretty good mess.

I had my trash bin emptied this past Monday in Fremont; green waste and recycling bins still at the curb. Cost is $140 every two months - $840 a year.

Republic Services is bringing in scabs to run the routes. I'm happy that my trash has been removed, not happy about the means.

Sort of. Divide salary by 2080.

But do these guys actually work full time days all week? I thought it was half days three days a week.

Still no pickup for us in Daly City top of the hill. We did get an offer to take the trash to a pickup spot though :laughing

In SF at the shop I pay $108 for a big recycle, small trash and the required compost, which I conveniently “lost.”
