Dick Mann was a Richmond Rambler! :thumbup

The first enduro I ever did was put on by the Richmond Ramblers.

They used to hill climb up Nichol Knob right behind their club house before they were shut down by the Point Richmond neighborhood. It was a challenging hill.

saw that hill. cool that theyre still around!

alright boys let me tell you yung uns a story, back in the 70's when cycle gear had one store on Barret ave in Richmond, yes before the Mac Donald ave store, there where these brothers that ran it named the Faria's (look em up under speedway) well sir I used to work there and I was a young buck ridin dirt and scrambles etc, we would all go every Friday night to the Richmond Ramblers clubhouse and they would host mini-bike races which where actually honda xr 70's and yz 80's back then around a little track right next to the clubhouse, the club sold beer hotdogs and a goodtime was had by all, grown men on little bikes drinking too much or not and racing around a small muddy track, yes I did it too. These would precede Saturday night which had scrambles at Sand Hill Ranch in Antioch, so Friday at RR was the Shit back then, if you rode you where there! Everyone knew everybody, a night that stands out was the night before a supercross in Oakland, Doug Dokomoss(https://www.google.com/#q=doug+domokos+longest+wheelie) was there mighty lit too and rode around a very muddy track on a yz or kx 80 with a midget on his shoulders on a wheelie! No shit! he almost made it around, Goodtimes wish you all could have been there, and yes we used to tear up the surrounding hills, hell you could ride all over the place back then in the dirt! You know the funniest thing was my folks used to let me hang out with these guys! Thanks mom and Dad it was a fukin blast!!

By the way all of the racers or most of them where racers themselves either on pavement or Dirt, Speedway etc, and everyone would pour money into the little bikes I mean some where very trick to get ready for Friday night. We often had celeb racers from out of town come to race as well.

great story!:thumbup the place is one of those of recent yore, like Roosters Roadhouse in Alameda, where just looking at, you KNOW there was a whole lot of rockin good times had there...happy ghosts

Great story. This area was indeed quite different back in the day. Unrecognizable in fact. I spent the 70's tearing up the Corte Madera ridge, now dotted with intolerant million dollar homes.
I believe the Faria name continues in speedway. Currently up in Auburn and until fairly recently the now defunct Vallejo speedway down by the fairgrounds.
Gotta be the same family......?

Yes sir same family, I moved down south for a bit and hung with them there forget the name of the speedway outside of la started with an A back in the eighties, yeah times have changed for better or worse, I just miss the loose fun we all used to have. It was all about riding bikes and they have always been part of my life and bless my folks for letting them in to it (motos that is).

Ascot raceway? ...naw, that was more flat track.
I sure miss the stuff in Vallejo, as hokey and underfunded as it was.

It's funny, I saw a dude with a Ramblers jacket on within the year over at Orchard by the Cutting BART.

And I was a customer at Richmond Cycle Gear when I had my first bike, way back then. Thanks for memory JMAC.

You know I dont truly remember it was not too far from Santa Monica where I lived back then, we used to go there on Friday or Saturday nights I do remember that :) one of the two LOL

I figure fond memories got no use for details:ride

Now, let's go back in the "Way Back" machine shall we?? How 'bout the '74 or '75 Trans A.M.A. warm up Mini Madness at the R. R. club house where Lackey, Marty Tripes, Pomeroy, Weinert and many more pro's came out to either watch or ride themselves. Tripes and Bevo Forte had a Bultaco Pursang 250 motor stuffed into a XR 75 frame! The head had fins trimmed way down so it would fit!! It was SO much fun watchin' these guys on that little track. GREAT times indeed!

I remember Brad Lackey, or more accurately a younger sister of his. It's so funny, in the 70s, El Sobrante and Richmond was dirt bike/hot rod/hog central. Lots of torn up hills everywhere. No comparison with today. Every once in a while, there's this guy who will sneak up Bonita and go into Wildcat with a dirtbike. I'm shocked, simply shocked while I laugh for the old days. And no, I ain't gonna turn him in. The EBPRD acquired Wildcat in 74 I believe. Prior to that, a guy could go out there and tool around....I think there is one little hill left by ATT on the Dam Rd. where bikes go...

Was the Pomeroy you mentioned the ambulance company family? I knew one of those guys too. Man, the cobwebs are thick..
