2006 Yamaha FZ1N - $3200 or trade for Ninja 300
  • 68,800 miles
  • Purchased Oct 2010 with 14,000 miles, I think I’m owner #3
  • Clean title in hand
  • Registered through October 2015—that’s right, you’re getting full year free reg!
  • Never crashed, dropped, raced, stunted, etc.
  • It has done 4 trackdays, and been ridden in the rain/snow/hail/ice/dirt roads/880 etc.

I bought this bike after totaling my ’04 VFR back in 2010, while living in Texas. I bought a one-way plane ticket to Los Angeles to pick it up and rode it back… then rode it back to California when I moved back here in 2011. Since then it’s been on several BARF rallies, numerous 2-up trips all over California, a weeklong trip up to Yellowstone, done a few trackdays, and more weekend hills rides then I can count, as well as being my daily commuter. It’s redonkeykong fast, torque for days, handles great, super comfortable, does well for 2-up, and looks tits. Just a great bike. However, as of last week, I’m back to my first love (another VFR), so it’s time for Fizzy to go…

Contact Info:
  • PM me here, or text/call Kegan at 808.895.9859.
  • Bike is available to see in E San Jose during evenings and weekends, or in south Fremont on weekdays (with advance notice).
  • Test rides OK with cash in hand.

Mods:
  • Naked conversion from the OEM parts catalog—this is how the FZ1 is sold in Europe. These are all stock Yamaha parts, not an aftermarket kit. I believe the conversion was done by the original owner.
  • Front suspension from an ’06 R1 (edit -may be '07-08, see replies below)
  • Brembo Master Cylinder, steel brake lines, 6-piston calipers
  • Ivan’s FCE and throttle butterflies, AIS blockoff plates, Cat/Evap/EXUP stuff removed, Power Commander 3 (a lot of people complain about the low-end fueling on the ’06 FZ1. This one is smooth as butter at any RPM or throttle opening, so surging or jerking whatsoever).
  • +1 rear sprocket, calibrated Speedo Healer
  • Rizoma conical handlebar, 42mm risers
  • Folding adjustable brake and clutch levers
  • CRG mirrors
  • Marsechini gas cap (stock included)
  • Radiator guard
  • Carbon fiber radiator shrouds, chin spoiler, front fender (stock included)
  • Powerbronze easy on/off windscreen (in case you’re a wimp)

Maintenance:
  • Complete Maintenance History
  • Last Oil/Filter Change – 1,900 miles ago (7/14) – normally change every ~4k
  • Last Valve Adustment – 18,500 miles ago (7/12) – recommended 26k intervals
  • Last Tire change – 4,800 miles ago (1/14) – Pirelli Angel GTs, they are *just* at the wear bars, few hundred miles left max
  • Last Chain/Sprocket change – 5,000 miles ago (1/14)
  • Last Battery Change – 9,800 miles ago (5/13), Yuasa YTZ14S
  • Front Suspension service (seals and oil) – 4,400 miles ago (2/14), serviced by Evolution Suspension
  • Rear Shock – Practically new, less than 2,000 miles on it
  • Throttle cables replaced and air filter cleaned this past weekend

Bad Stuff:
  • There is a *very* slight oil leak from the RH side of the engine (I think it might be from the cam chain tensioner cover, but it’s tough to tell with a leak this slow). When I say very slight, I mean the oil level through the sight glass doesn’t even go down noticeably between 4k oil change intervals, and it sure doesn’t drip. What you’ll notice is that over time, the lower RH side of the engine case gets greasy and grimy. Of course, I’ve just cleaned it off, but I took some pics before to show what it looks like when you don’t clean it off for several thousand miles. This issue has been present for the past 20-30,000 miles.
  • The countershaft sprocket shaft where the nut threads on is stripped at the very base. What I’ve done is shim the nut out using additional lockwashers, to where there are still threads to engage, and install the nut with loctite. It holds fine, and you just need to remember to use the extra lockwashers to shim out the nut when removing and reinstalling. (Ref discussion thread)

Pics? Pics! Pics:

This is what the lower right side of the engine looks like after several thousand miles, before I cleaned it up... notice that the oil level is still fine after 1,900 miles since the last oil change:

Also, user strictlyJDM has already expressed interest, so he's first in line provided he can come check it out soon...

Edit - he said he's still waiting on another one his bikes to sell, so we're back to first come first serve.

Will also consider trading for a Ninja 300.

Are you sure on the year front end? I be leave it is an 07-08 that is when the R1 got 6 piston calipers.

Good lord that is a nice bike.

What rear shock is in there currently?

I'm not sure. I recall being told that it was an '06 (I'm not the one that put it on), and you may well be right that it's a different year. I'll edit the post to note that.

Thanks! :teeth
The rear shock is a stocker that has less than 2,000 miles on it.

Bitching bike man!!!! I may convert mine to a naked later just because it looks so friggin good! When the cash is flowing again. Did you get the new vfr?

what camera are those mounts for?

There's a GoPro adhesive mount on the gas tank, just forward of the filler cap.

No, not one of the new ones. I got another 6th gen (2006), this time in white instead of red. I might have another look at the new ones once they hit the used market.

Sweet bike, it looks so good naked. Bump and GLWS!

Yea dude fair price even though for a bike miles are highhhhhh

Very cool glws!

Why is this still for sale?! That is one hell of a deal.

I'm wondering the same.

Thanks guys! :thumbup I think That Guy is coming to check it out this weekend... I haven't put it up on CL or anything yet, but if I still have it on Monday, it'll get listed there. Figured I'd give the BARF crew first dibs...

Aaaaaarg. Rode her in to work today. SERIOUSLY having second thoughts about selling. Inform wifey of said thoughts. Wifey informs me of possibility of divorce. Don't know what to doooooo!

This thing is so fun, I think it's the best lane-splitting bike I've owned (yes, better than the supermotos), so smooth, and what seems like just and endless well of power. The VFR has that wonderful V4 growl, yes... but this thing has ooomph.

Someone come take it away from me before I change my mind.
