Rider Down Hard on Mines Rd today (6/27/10), RIP Bo Poulsen

This is always my biggest fear... I took Calaveras rd home in my car the other day to avoid traffic. I'm a bit concerned doing the road alone. I was moving at a decent pace and a 335 bmw FLEW up on me... i could see him cutting all the corners at a much faster pace than i was going. I honk at every blind turn in hopes that IF someone was coming they'd hear and slow down as well.

No reception up there either...

The Vasco/May School/Highland/Tassajara commute. Commuters in very capable cars at way reasonable speeds still can't seem to grasp the fact that they don't need both lanes to corner - never seen so many people voluntarily crossing the DY to straighten out corners when completely unnecessary at the speeds they're driving.

It's sheer laziness. They don't want to turn the wheel that far or operate the brake pedal.

Or at least that's the only conclusion I've been able to come to when following such people.

I just found out that Bo is represented by my firm, but his case is being handled by another partner.

Regardless of what the driver may have said, the physical evidence shows that the impact occurred well into Bo's lane. We've had two experts out at the scene, and they took samples of the oil/fluid stains on the ground, among other things, and verified via the fork oil directly from Bo's bike the precise location of the impact. The driver flat out lied to you and although Bo will win, he has lost already.

I will see what more information I can gather and share with you. I am aware that a lot of Bo's close friends have been out of the loop and unable to get information as to his status, or any information at all. I hope to be able to share some of that with you soon to help put you at ease. As of this writing, Bo is still in a coma.

Geez.

HEAL UP, BO!!

Just another reason that I basically am almost retired from local canyon carving. Just not worth it for me anymore. You don't even have to be at fault and you can still get clobbered hard.

Careful out there everyone.

Any updates on Bo?

A few friends of his just found out and want to help his family.

Bo is in the Kentfield Rehab Hospital in Marin Co. His family is staying at Bo's house (Mom, brother, & sister are rotating thru) and helping with the mental rehab. He is out of the coma, but only very limited responses to some stimuli so far. He has a long way to go.

GET WELL BO!!!

Catfish ...

Healing thoughts sent. Thanks for the update. Hope that justice is done on the legal front.

Glad to hear he's out of the coma... the human body is an amazing thing... I hope he amazes the doctors with a fast recovery!

Awesome. Out of the coma is way, way better than still stuck in it, no matter how limited he is.

Best of luck man.

Most cars out there are so horribly maintained that they need both lanes to maintain control & traction at speed. Apparently slowing down is not an option, and God forbid they actually fix their damn car!

Get well soon, Bo. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Actually, I'm going to guess it's more the driver's mindset. They believe that professional drivers are going to "straighten the curves", so they get out there in their sportscar, and they want to do the same thing we're doing... go fast through the twisties. What they fail to realize is that the cars themselves don't need the corners cut... they can handle the corners... it's the driver that's needing to... and they just don't stop to think that there could be a bike around one of those corners... :|

To me ANY vehicle crossing the double yellows is a HUGE problem. It has become acceptable behavior on those road tests you see w/ ferraris, lambos and the like.

i see that as a much larger problem than someone going fast, but staying in their own lane while in a corner.

A head-on collision is not a minor thing. <-- but yet you see these idiots taking racing lines in the BMW (ricky racer t.v.) on national T.V. and no one says anything about it.

Don't stay in your lane and you should be fined for it just like speeding. Shouldn't that be happening?

I wasn't talking about sports cars. I was talking about pickup trucks, mini vans, and dd beaters. I seen all of them do it. I really, honestly believe they were just being lazy. :(

It is a lot of work turning that steering wheel thingie back and forth. Man, I need another latte just thinking about it! :laughing

Quite possibly the most compelling reason not to ride. To spare loved ones this level of anquish.
A sobering post, Kate.
I wish you well.

So sad... Nothing can replace Dad. I hope he is indeed in a better place and that something bright came out of this tragedy.

Rest in Peace Bo...
