Rider killed on hwy 4 (1/31/13)

Wow, I'm sorry the rider passed. It will be be heart wrenching to his loved ones, family, and friends. So my best wishes are to them. Also, riding in an unsafe manner falls in the same category as many other dangerous things like playing in the river without knowing how to swim, cleaning parts in the garage with gasoline next the the water heater, playing on the rocks at the coast during high surf periods, etc.

The word is given, the message is known, some choose to go forward on their own.

Hey Mark, I'm going to use this thread to post what popped out at me: glad you're still with us brother after your bad accident years ago. It's good to run into you at opportune times. Fate...and what a better time to tell you, I'm glad you made it through and still are riding strong.

+1. Nobody is an angel at all times. we have all put ourselves into situations.

Amen Mike. I don't want to imply Mark was riding insanely...he wasn't. Just that shit happens for the oddest of reasons and I'm glad to read his words here. There's a few posters that when they type, I feel this way...Mark's one, Dan another. I'm glad they're still with us and better, still riding.

Thanks for kind words Mike and for seeing my post as not a flame. I just can't really "throw the first stone" for how or why people do what they do in life; with just one exception - being cruel to others.

Bikes are great fun and a "bad decision" can really just boil down to a simple one quarter inch move of the right wrist. Move one way and the fun can increase OR stop. Move the other way and the fun can decrease but continue on at a decreased level.

I've / we've all lost very skilled (even more skilled than me) rider friends do to situations they got themselves into. It gets back to that wrist movement thing. So back on target here. We must remember the fallen rider Timothy and send our best thoughts to ward this tragic event.

I'd also like to bring up a story I once heard. This is in response to Budman's post.

There were two people walking down the beach. The beach was covered with ten's of thousands of washed up and dieing starfish. One of the two people was picking some of the starfish up and putting them back in the ocean. The other said to them, "why bother, you're just one and there are thousands, it just doesn't matter." And they responded, "it matters to the few I help."

So we all must persevere to help and teach each other the best we know of motorcycling, and not be discouraged because it does matter to that one rider who learns from you from us.

Also, as with many things in life, do you're best and disregard the rest.

And as with me, you can teach someone absolutely everything you know and it still ends tragically.

the amazing and uplifting words of barfers who are willing to share on such a personal and poignant level remind me why i love this place so much. thanks for that.

Nice post. I certainly not giving up. Faith may weaken at times, but will not leave me because I do believe barf is a positive for so many.

My condolences to the rider's family. To those who are "losing faith" just let me say I'm 54 years old, been riding pretty steady for the last 22 years, and have had no accidents at all for the last 21. The one b4 that resulted in no injury.

Just be smart and careful and you'll get old, like me. Don't take chances. Don't try to cheat. Hold back some. There's plenty of opportunities to open up and fly-and tons of other times you shouldn't. Keep riding, everyone.

I believe we should try to take something from threads like this when we can, and more importantly while we can.
I'm taking this.

You and me both. There's always a little more one can do to help others...
