I see this as totally different than most of you.
First of all most (if not all) of those metered freeway entrances state "one car per green". If you're on a bike and choose to take that green with the car that has been waiting you better be quick and not slow the car driver who has the right to go on the green. The motorcyclist was slower than the car even though he had a rolling start.
Second, the car did NOT appear to make a move on the bike. If you watch, and re-watch the video as I did, you'll see that while the Tesla is accelerating the car ahead in the right lane changes into his lane and slows dramatically trying to force his way into traffic. The Tesla was ahead of the bike so he did the smart thing at that point, he signaled and changed to the right lane which was clear ahead now that the other car(douche bag) had changed lanes in front of him. At this point the bike rider is butt hurt because, the car was faster than him, and he thought the lane change into the right lane in front of the bike was too close. So what. I don't get all upset if someone changes lanes in front of me, unless they do it and then slow down or create a much bigger gap.
Thirdly, while the car is continuing in the right lane and slowing as he approaches traffic ahead the rider comes up to his window at what appears to be in the same lane (even though the other lane is clear) and begins to engage in a road rage shouting match.
Fourthly and probably the most stupid and dangerous move, the rider continues to hand wave and shout at the driver while splitting between the 3rd and 4th lane. This is amazingly stupid. You do realize that a car weighs about 10 times what a bike weighs and can easily slam you to the ground. Here the rider exposes himself to another driver that he has been yelling at, all the while leaving himself in the most vulnerable position. Although I've grown accustom to people being stupid while driving or riding, frankly I'm still astounded when I see a clear example of how dumb they can be.
Finally the rider does what he should have done immediately when the conflict started. He changes lanes to the left and leaves the car driver in the dust stuck in traffic.
I don't engage anyone. I don't ever put myself in a position where some cartard can smash me. I always try to look ahead, think ahead, make a plan, and do a good job executing the plan. Its a continuous process.
I try to never let ego come into play at all. I don't have anything to prove on the highway. If I want to prove something to anyone or myself I take it to the track.
Every time I ride or drive, my number one priority is making it home safe and sound. That's why I have a checkered flag hanging in my garage. Every time I do make it home safe and sound I win !!!
Think about what you're doing out there, and mostly think about getting home when you ride or drive in. Every time you do its a win.
