I go with textile overpants on the street. For some reason leather pants refuse to fit me, even though my 1 pc suit fits decently.

Anyone that ride the 101(yep from south of SF, so I say The 101), from SFO into the city, via Candlestick Park? Next time you ride through, look at the freeway surface. I cringe when I see anyone riding in jeans, thinking how little protection there is in those pants from that surface. :(

I ride strictly for fun, no commuting or store runs, so I always wear my gear.

Full leathers, always.

If you have the $$ for a several thousand dollar bike then you have the $$ for gear. The people that complain they dont have the $$ for gear in my mind bought a too expensive potentially out of their ability bike

Textiles for short rides and leathers for longer rides for me.

I dont use the bike for around town and running errands, but when I commute or even ride it, its always full gear.
Dainese Leather pant + leather jacket. Pant zips to the jacket. boots, full face helmet, gloves.

I keep a pair of shoes in the office and carry a change in my back pack.

As others have said, it all comes down to how much risk are you willing to take.

Givi luggage = safe place to stash gear while not on the bike. :) The asphalt doesn't care if you're going to a party...

Rather wear a backpack than put those things on my bike.

Jeans: School, around town, visiting home, dinners/dates, etc.

1 Piece: Aggressive riding, twisties (no exception), longer commutes, when its not inconvenient.

Ideally I would wear over pants and/or knee guards between the times I wear my jeans and suit, but I cant find a pair that I like enough to drop $200 on.

However, I have no excuse to not getting knee guards because they are so cheap. :thumbdown for me

Riding anywhere I'm going over 30mph - Leather pants

Most city riding - jeans with armor underneath (higher chance of impact injuries vs. sliding at speed)

The poll is flawed. I think most of us wear motorcycle pants or even full suits for long or freeway commutes but occasionally wear jeans or other pants for riding around town.

I thought the same thing when I had just started - luggage doesn't look cool! But you soon realize how convenient lockable storage is. :p

Especially when camping. Fit this in a backpack:

lol must be easy to wheelie :ride

OK, heres the Hot tip....Have choices in your closet to choose from, depending on the season and the use at the moment.

When I needed to get out of my leather quick (say arriving at work) I wore heavy leather chaps with T-Pro knee pads under the leather (sewn in).

Now I wear Shift Havoc pants. Still an over the whats under (like jeans under, but could be armor underware). The design of the Shift Havoc pants is very "handy".

Textile can't be scoffed at. I prefer leather, for several reasons (it stops the cold from sneaking in, Textile, not so much.

Just keep in mind (someone mentioned it) the job of protection is two fold. One is taking abrasion, the other is taking impact.

no option for shorts ? keeping the squids out of your poll ? :ride

Johnson Leathers custom 2 pc, pants have knee, hip pads - 99% of the time. If it's 98+ deg I'll wear textile.

Textile causes me to slide around on the seat, and they don't grip the tank pads very well either.

Best protection will come from leathers. If I am riding spirited Ill wear a one piece suit.

Ill ride around town in jeans, call me a squid.

I also have some textile pants I used to ride in the mountains with (plus a leather jacket) but after seeing someone lowside at 35mph with the same pants, I lost some trust.

Over jeans they wouldnt be bad...

And you bring up a good point about armour in loose pants. For the best impact protection you need armour that is attached to your leg/knee with pants over it... or tighter pants like racing leathers which hold the armour in place well enough.

Leathers gripped my ugly stomp grip well but I actually find that jeans grip my new tech spec's better then the leather does.

Knee guards and armor when the rest of your gear is jeans, sneakers and light fabrics is like riding naked and wearing chaps.......next to useless and you're only fooling yourself.
