riding with one hand??

I am not sure but I think the law states you have to have at least one hand on the bike. I'm sure that if whatever you are doing with your freehand can be deemed wreckless, you can get some kind of citation...
 
There was a rider with only one hand he had a fake hand to wear because he was missing part of one arm and hand. He would park in the handicap spots and get tickets all the time because no one would believe a motorcyclist could be handicapped in anyway. He was featured in a magazine along time ago. He had one handle bar setup with a clutch and brake lever on the same side one below the other so he could control the bike.
 
I am with uhmeebuh on this. In the MSF ERC class we got a chance to weave the cones with one hand. It was pretty fun actually. I was told that some riders ride with one hand to have a better view of their 6 o'clock.

I have been pulled over for riding with one hand several years back. I told the cop (young cop total rookie) it was not illegal to do so and if he felt it was I wanted him to show me in writting where it states that it is illegal since he has to put a violation or code number on the ticket. The cop got flustered went and talked with his croanie at the car, flipped through some book came back and gave me a ticket for some other bullshit thing.....impeading traffic is what he got me for. What a crock........ I was waving at a friend going the other way so obviously I was impeading traffic....Judge tossed it out.

This happened in San Mateo....now I live in Redding...glad it hasn't happened here....they shoot first then ask questions later.
 
I know certain riders that rail up the back side of 9 with one hand ....and the other on thier waist ..... :wow



its even funner when you wave to the rider in front who thinks their going fast ..


of course this is all hear say ..i would never do something that dangerous:teeth
 
I've ridden with one hand on the bars for miles up on 121. It's no big deal to do... but yeah, I'd like to see the CVC section that says it's a no-no, if it is.
 
I have seen permanent disabled plates on bikes. DMV issued them. Don't know what the disability is thogh.
 
There is no law in CA that specifically states you must have one or both hands on the controls of a motorcycle while in operation on the street, highway or freeway.

The basic speed law (22350 CVC) could be applied by an officer if they could articulate that at WHATEVER speed you were travelling was, in their opinion, an unsafe speed, regardless of the posted limit. The placement of your hands at the time of the alleged violation could be a critical part of their argument that the speed was unsafe.

That's it.
 
can i drink a bottle of water with my left and ride with my right?? because i do that when im crusin on the freeway dont want to get dehydrated.

im doin it in the slow lane with absolutely no traffic for all of you safety nazis out there

Maybe you missed it..

This means there is no law prohibiting you from drinking a bottle of water with one (or both) hand(s) while riding (or driving). If you are operating safely, it is not an issue.

Dude. Buy a camelbak, it costs a lot less than an accident. plus it works great as a heat exchanger if you chill the bladder down in the fridge before you ride (wear the 'bak under your jacket.)
 
i did buy one but the only time i ride on the freeway is when i commute and i take a backpack and if i put the backpack over the camelback it squeezes all the water out and on to my suit.
