RIP Choco Taco

Bet it’s like any other 7-11 highly processed ice cream.
I’ve never had one and can’t say they look all that appealing.

I do think they will be brought back by another company or something,

If you think about it, they are kind of like It’s It’s, which were a novelty of Playland. They went away with with park then came back for nostalgia sake.

THey never seemed to be widely available. My boys loved them but they only showed up on field trips to SF Zoo and such. So it was, in our perception, something related to a special occasion. For all I know, they were at the store the whole time but I never thought to look for them.

Anyway, I think they will take the same path. Drumsticks were also revived somewhat with different flavor options and a new jumbo size. Of course, never discontinued.

The company logic for the move was truly irritating and went back my ongoing meme of “the corporation is always right and the customer never is” despite claims otherwise. We have gotten so used to taking the shit sandwich they offer us in any number of business and services…..

:wtf

The Its its has been available in local grocery stores since when I moved here from New York at the dawn of time 40+ years ago.

I have It's It's in my freezer right meow.

What's with the drumstick hate? :laughing

From the CNN article.

And that is why it's better.

I've had one, maybe two of those ever, and it's been years. But I recall they were pretty good for a pre-packaged ice cream treat.

Oh, and :rip

no way. they suck ass. every. single. ingredient. tastes like cardboard. and soggy cardboard at that. i’m not even sure the nuts are actual nut material. the only way the ice cream can be identified as ice cream is that it’s cream colored and melty. the chocolate may as well be brown wax. yeah - no. :x

I became disillusioned with Choco tacos after realizing they were just unrolled drumsticks. Then I came back to Choco tacos when I realized you get a better ratio of cone to ice cream.

I was talking about Choco-Tacos. How I never thought to look for em at the store but found them at carnies and stuff like that. They may have been there all the time but it was like a special occasion thing.

Kids love ‘em, and even if they aren’t really all that great, it’s fun when kids think they are getting something special. I am mad at Klondike. I don’t think they marketed em all that well.

I mean, you talked about its its going away. I have never seen that as long as I have been in CA. :dunno

Yer younger than me. There was an interval where you had to go to the City to get ‘em according to the Wiki. I thought they went with Playland. That’s the only place I ever had em for a while… Like I said, I was kinda happy when I could start getting them at a store.

I see, yes, I have only been in CA about 40 years, so if it was in Ancient Roman times, like the 1970's, I may have just missed it.

They were a weird novelty usually found at theme parks and shady ice cream trucks

I’m so old I remember when they introduced Pringles and Capn Crunch. There once was a time when you could get Cocoa Puffs (introduced 1956, my birth year) but not Capn Crunch. I don’t know why my otherwise sensible mother bought me that crap, but I used to start my pre-pre-diabetic day with either Trix or Cocoa Puffs. It set me up for a highly-sugared morning to trot off to school, only to get kicked out of class when I had my sugar crash later….Ah, I can still remember that leftover milk plus cereal flavor at the end….sigh…When they came out with Capn Crunch (1963), as well as Honeycomb (1965) come to think of it, they were too sweet even for me! Think about it, a seven year old kid thinking that! The only thing more loathsome would be gathering all the charms from Lucky Charms and trying to eat em all at once. There’s another high moment in phony corporate flavor. Choco Tacos come out of this almost wholesome compared to other crap not being discontinued.

As for Pringles (1968), my uncle just HAD to try them so he got a few cans. It was one of my earliest moments of recognition of the silent corporate hand figuring out a way to simultaneously not have to slice potatoes carefully, use whatever quality potato and fillers they wanted and not have breakage; plus being able to stock more product in a smaller space for the retailer. I hated their phony taste from the very beginning but I know they have some fans. It’s been quietly amazing to view their staying power despite our Nature Valley sensibility, ha…..

When I saw your thread title, I wanted to believe it was about this topic. Thank you for delivering.

Having seen a reddit thread about choco taco's demise shortly before OP's thread appeared, I reached the same conclusion,

So sad, this is my all-time favorite cardboard-wrapped ice cream music truck comin down the street freezer burn treat...

no way. they suck ass. every. single. ingredient. tastes like cardboard. and soggy cardboard at that....... :x

It's one of the 4 basic food groups

Candy-Corn, Candy Canes, Choco Taco and Syrup!
