Godspeed Dick. :rip

A bad ass motorcycle racer who was well respected by his piers and the fans too.

Heaven just got a little faster.
A true legend that will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
What an amazing legacy to leave behind.

RIP Mr. Mann!
Motocross, Observed Trials, Flat Track, TT and Roadracing!
A long, fast varied life. :cool

Plate number tells it.

RIP Champ.
I met Dick on a few occasions, and he always took the time to chat with his fans. Had some great stories too.

I saw him race in the seniors motocross at HH years ago. No matter how old, never held back. Once a racer always a racer!

Heaven just got a little faster.
A true legend that will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
What an amazing legacy to leave behind.

Pretty much says everything. What a truly graceful man, had time for fans and loved the sport.

RIP Dick Mann.

Dick Mann passes away

I met Dick at the Auto City Speedway in Flint, Michigan back in 1975, riding flat track. I also met Bart Markel, Mert Lawill, Corky Keener, Rex Beauchamp, and the rest of the racers of that era, getting autographs at the age of ten while going van to van. Mr. Hayden (Nicky's dad) remembered meeting me there when I spoke briefly to him in 2005 (skinny kid with the Yamaha jersey on in a sea of Harleys). Somewhere... and, it hurts to write this, that race program with all of those signatures got lost in the move from lower Michigan to Northern Michigan. :thumbdown I set a record I would think getting nearly every rider in every class to sign that thing, including Junior Experts and Novices too. Guys like Ted Boody, Randy Goss, Garth Brow, Jay and Kenny Springsteen, Joe Leonard, Charlie Chapple, that guy that crashed hard in "On Any Sunday" (Mike somebody... Johnson?). I cannot find that book ANYWHERE and whenever I see a flat track icon go, I lament its loss. Thanks for the inspiration Mr. Mann. :ride

A buddy and I went to the San Jose Mile in 1972 and he snapped this picture of Dick Mann. He was my hero growing up, especially after he won the national championship in 1971. It's a sad day when your heros die...
