That is really a shame. It's crazy that they ride bikes with NO BRAKES! I guess they just let their engines do the braking?

Very sad... Godspeed Hiromi :rose

The Japanese race series is very interesting indeed because of the gambling aspect and unique style of racing. Good on her for joining.. getting a win.. and following her dreams.

There are no brakes on flat track racers here either AFAIK.

Oh I see, I had no idea. I guess it's kinda like how fixed bicycles on the track don't have brakes either. I'd ride a fixed with no brakes, but forget a motorcycle with no brakes. That just seems like suicide to me.

It's really too bad that she died. She's cute too, I'd totally cruise with those girls. I bet they'd blow me outta the water.

I'd sooner ride a motorcycle with no brakes than a suicidal fixie-- the motorcycle has a clutch and multiple gearing :twofinger

Haha, but a clutch can only remove power from the engine. It can't stop you. Multiple gearing would be useful if you are in a higher gear, so you can downshift and use a little engine braking. Still, you're going to be limited by how quickly the engine will stop you. I guess if you have a high displacement motor, you'll stop fairly quickly, but otherwise you're still going to coast for a bit.

Granted, with a fixed, you're also going to have trouble stopping, but at least I can either slow down with my legs, or lock up the rear wheel and skid to a stop.

Going downhill is where a fixed would have an advantage over the motorcycle. A fixed rider could keep his speed in check by using their legs. The motorcycle rider would still accelerate until the end of the gear.

Either way, I'd rather have brakes. :D

I'm seriously clueless about this sort of racing but friends in Japan who are big moto racing fans disregard this series. It seems that it exists for gambling exclusively and results are somewhat suspect.

Still though, sad to see a rider leave us.

i have always loved delicate designs on porcelain. the soft on the hard. as with you.

rest in peace hiromi. thank you for your spirit, and for being that delicate design on a very hard surface. it's elemental, and everlasting.
