RIP Marco Simoncelli

My sons and I woke up this morning in a great mood! Jonas (my 5 year old) is a huge motorcycle racing fan.

I made the boys pancakes. They sat down at the table and enjoyed their pancakes as I started the race on the DVR..........

After the crash, my 5 year old turned to me and said, "Dad, I'm worried about Simoncelli........"

I stopped the race then jumped online and found out that Marco Simoncell was dead. I told my 5 year that he was gone. I had to try to describe what that meant. After a couple of minutes, Jonas looked at me and said, "I want to delete the race so I never have to see it again. I don't want Simoncell to be dead." We're both struggling with the emotions of seeing something so devastating as part of something that we get to enjoy together as father and son.

I'm so sorry for Marco's family and friends. I'm so sorry for all the MotoGP fans. I'm so sorry my 5 year old is confused and sad about losing one of his heroes.

I'm so sorry.

sad

In few other riders could the will to win, to fight and to succeed every second be as clearly seen as they were in Marco. He rode every corner like it was his last.....

Indeed.... unfortunatly... :(

The (SAD) truth is, that once again, Marco crashed without finishing one single lap.. trying to do as Doohan said over a decade ago about riders who try to win the race on the first lap. I am hardly suprised, although I am certainly surprised (rather shocked) that he was killed and moreover - instantly.

Nevertheless, Marco never would heed to any advice and brush off his (injureless) riding with the flair of arrogance that characterized him. Surly enough, roadracing IS a confidence game and without it, a racer might as well go home. However, there are some racers that go way beyond "confidence" and sometimes luck does run out..... and in this situation, Marco's stubborness to save his error, ironically, lead to his demise.

Nevertheless this could happen to any rider.... especially in the first laps when racing is at is closest. It is freak accident that sometimes cant be avoided regardless of whatever "safety measures" are taken.

Just saw the crash. With TiVo I avoid the news until I watch the race. I saw that wreck and knew he was dead. Horrible. That's the kind of thing u don't want your family to watch happen. Thoughts go out to friends and family.

Let us not forget that everyday (almost) we are losing soldiers that may not be famous but mean everything to their loved ones.

Death is always awful. Sorry I had to see it today.

+1, I finally watched the race. Rossi's reaction on his bike was apparent.
RIP Marco

I feel horrible for Edwards and especially Rossi, who's front wheel struck his head with so much force Marco's helmet came off. It was a freak accident, but I know they were good friends, so I can't imagine what is going through Rossi's mind right now. What a horrible accident. Edwards disclocated his shoulder but is otherwise ok. Rossi had no physical injuries. The Dorna feed kept replaying the highlight with the upbeat highlight music while everyone was waiting for official word on Marco, which seemed really inappropriate, although I am sure they had no idea how seriously the situation was.

Mary and I wish to add our deepest condolences to Marcos family and
his team during this tragic loss... we will always remember Marco as a
Lion on the track and a Lamb in person... http://www.58marcosimoncelli.it/

Marco gestures to Mary to come to him...

RIP super SIC

I watched the race this morning, as soon as I saw the helmet off I started yelling at the TV. The commentators made it sound like he was alive since he was "being treated" and they even showed replays of the accident in a highlight reel so I had some hope. Then I found out he succumbed to his injuries and I realized I had just watched someone die on TV. I feel ill and sad. I went out and did a few wheelies and stoppies but it wasn't the same. Im glad the AFM season is over.

:rip

I have not seen the race yet been on a jet all day.
This is a shitty day. He was a damn fine racer. Won't be the same without the Fro:(

I very rarely watch the MotoGP race on the day it airs, but usually watch it midweek while avoiding all threads about the race. This morning I thought I would watch the Euro feed then join in the race talk. After watching 40 minutes of pre-game interviews before the race, Marco was one of the few riders the commentator didn't speak with because his people had him and his bike roped off. All I saw was him sitting on his bike with a wet towel over his head like most riders had, trying to stay cool in the humid temperatures. You couldn't even see his face.

Very surreal day.

Marco, you will be missed. I have lit a candle to light your way home. Thanks for bringing light and a smile to my heart.

I recently gained much interest in MotoGP after getting my first sportbike & I found Marco to be very entertaining to watch. His long limbs & agressive style of riding made him very unique. With less than two years in the motoGP circuit I believe he proved that he would have become one the greats.
R.I.P. my fellow Italiano. We will miss you greatly.

:rip Marco

I've only meet him a few times, a very personable young man on his
way to be one of the great ones.

You shall be missed :rose

I absolutely love this shot, as it is really testament to the skill set that Simoncelli possessed. Running with the World Champions, and making a name for himself.

It still amazes me that Simon was able race with that amount of hair.:)

RIP Marco. You were and always be a class act.
