Road to Dakar ...

Beastly tactic. Using the tracks to mess with the others.

That is really smart on many levels.

was fun to read about and see, usually when we watch the Dakar we see the person opening the stage lose time, so good on Mr Howes. will be more fun rooting for him in January … :flag

here’s a cool vid from today’s stage in the Africa Eco Rally about the guys who race single hand in the unsupported class, our glorious privateers, what used to be called Malle Moto:

there’s adventure for me … :ride

we had a rest day, and then stage 6 was cancelled due to weather that kept the necessary helicopters grounded … we’re in Mauritania now:

stage 8, our second stage in Mauritania ... an over 400km special, in loop form:

our best performing T7 race bike seemed to have another mechanical issue today. still finishing though. I'd love to know what the problems have been for that Yamaha, it's a bike I dream of owning. :dunno

I don't know the answer to that, maybe one of our racers will chime in ... :ride

sorry to hear about the MTB get off, sounds painful ... : |

here's a pic of our Sonora Rally 2022 winner, Mr Howes:

there's a pretty cool website, here, which I'd never heard of, that has some cool Sonora Rally coverage with a ton of pics:
2022 Sonora Rally Stage 5
"Riding the Wave; Racers Find their Rhythm on the Final Sonora Rally Stage"
race-dezert.com, 10/25/22

stage win today for our Malle Moto/Motul Extreme leader, Mr Flick, and a third on the state for a T7:

here's an example of why North America will be such a cool place for a
World Rally event in 2023 ...

the pic shows 14 miles of the big dunes the Sonora Rally racers had to negotiate today on a single compass heading ... gives us a little bit of a flavor for just how big they are:

Our very own Barf member Krongsak and veteran of the Barf Baja trips had some great photos of the dunes from the 2021 Sonora Rally, he raced in it. They looked reDONKulous. :wow He was running in the top ten for a period and finished 14th overall, on a 2006 WR450F. Impressive :thumbup

Looking forward to seeing Skylar, Ricky "little baby jesus" Brabec, and Mason Klein compete in this years Dakar. It was Mason's first Dakar, and the youngest competitor at 20 years old finishing in 9th. :applause Is Short returning? I'll be cheering for all the Americans and Taco! :flag

14th is impressive. :thumbup

so cool, I'll have to remember to talk with Mr Krongsak about his Sonora Rally experience! :thumbup

I have a vague plan the next time I'm at the Guadalupe hot springs to head over and check out Sonora a little bit, instead of just heading south like I usually do. :laughing:ride

here's what they say is the most "prestigious" day of the 2022 Africa Eco Rally, the final stage into Dakar:

and here's some info on Mr Botturi's Yamaha T7 problems during the race:

Mr Botturi was able to win a Moroccan stage with his big T700 but had rear suspension and chain failures and spent a whole day/night in the desert,

anyway ... can't wait for the 2023 Dakar in eight weeks or so, where the racing will be more competitive due to more racers than the Africa Eco race. my other dream, besides checking out Sonora, MX, on teh KLR, is to get back to Morocco and see if I can't rent a bike and tour down along the coast to Dakar and back. :blah
