Rock Climbing

It's a bit thick but I bought it after my third lead climb and wanted something I was comfortable taking a dozen falls on. Then I became a stay at home dad and fell too far out of shape to lead or even follow at a level I'm happy with.

I am going to Europe this summer, and plan is to go climbing outside with my cousin. So far I have only been doing balley climbing in PG. What do I need to learn/get certified at to climb outside?

Thanks

Get your lead card if you don't have one , & get as much practice as you can so you wont be limited to top rope climbing . Most places have a ton of sport routes as well as trad so you'll have way more options :thumbup

I might suggust spend a day with Yosemite Mountaineering School, maybe do Cathedral Peak. I have climbed with Bill Russell and Tom Carter. They are amazing.

Hmm, can I rent a rope? I don't really want to invest in to equipment more then I already have (harness, shoes, chalkback). I can buy a balley device.

Unfortunately I don't have time for that.

On a sidenote if anyone wants to climb on Tuesdays at PG Sunnyvale. Let me know. :)

You don't get certified to climb outside. In Europe you don't get certified to climb in gyms either (at least not where I've been).

FWIW I started with the Rock 1 & Rock 2 classes here, a long time ago:

Can't guarantee they're still being taught, but it wasn't a bad way to begin.

Not sure what you mean by balley climbing. There are 3 kinds of climbing they do at planet granite: bouldering, top roping and sport climbing. Outdoors you can do those and more.

Where are you planning to climb in europe?

Top Roping, lol. Not sure yet, my cousin is looking in to it. She lives in Germany and I guess got in to it also.

Just got into climbing within the last year and love it! Been climbing with a few different Afm guys and gals and been getting some outdoor gear. Can't wait to get on the rock out here in the reno area

Anyone want to go out to Mt. Diablo and climb? If so shoot me a PM. I'd love to find some climbing buddies. My experience is somewhat limited, I have done nut cracker and lead a few routs. As of now I can probable do a 5.7-8 with my shoulder, before the injury I was climbing 5.10b.

Reviving an old thread. I climb at pg Sunnyvale twice a week and always see a handful of bikes out front. Anyone interested in a barf climbing session sometime soon?

anyone goto mission cliff in sf? I've been going there for 2-3 months

I go to PG in Sunnyvale. Let me know next time. As soon as I start regaining my gains I get sick, or busy. :|

I just got lead certified at PG. :D
Anyone want to go climbing next week?
It's weird going from climbing 10d-11b to 10b/c. lol.
