Crap! That totally makes sense now!
we were standing off to the side in tech as that bike came through, and I made the comment to Eric about "camouflage fairings, I've seen it all now". him:"no, those babies are that way because of a fire, check it out". me: holy, you are right, that's awesome
On of the best parts of working tech in the mornings is getting a chance to see some of the amazing bikes that come through up close. A really pretty Buell, the new guy on the ginormus KTM (Pierre??), all the really clean Ducati's, lots of BMW's, Rio's new R1. I really enjoy looking them over
And a big public thanks to Micah who works the release point - my R1 ended up going down at the last minute (talk about emotional let down, so close and then *denied* an hour prior to departure time, very unhappy camper in the moment) so I showed up at Sears anyway sans bike to help out however I could. Micah offered me his spare GSXR600 to ride for the day, I was hesitant to take him up on it, but David busted my balls about not being out, so decided to go for it and suited up and I had a ball on his bike.
First time riding with a slipper clutch and traction control (dialed up to 11 since I didn't want to throw his bike away, see: Z2 FZ1, Thill, rain, T15, paint, slide, ah crap). First time into T9 the slipper kicked in, my first thought was "huh, the front tire slides when I'm on the brakes" as it felt kinda mushy up front. 2nd time through 9 I realized, ah, that's the back kicking out a bit from the slipper. And being able to get on the gas much earlier with the TC took me awhile to gain some trust in, but by the last session I was starting to get it down. Did one A group session mid day and got into a nice pack with some clean dicing and great pace, came off with a big smile and a "damn, this thing goes good when you wring it out" after 7-8 laps of drag racing out of 6 and into 7, backing it in on the slipper - or at least trying to
So a real big thanks, very appreciated, very appreciative of the offer, Z2 is a great family. I might even be in the market for one, it's very possible that I logged some time in the BARF classifieds earlier this morning searching around for a 06-09 GSXR-600...
