Rukka jackets worth it?

FWIW to anyone, I've been in touch with the Brand Manager for Rukka...

Their products have, in fact, been manufactured in China for the last 4 years. It's important to note, though, that they own and operate their own factory, located just outside of Shanghai. They do not use subcontractors.

Prior to 2013, all product was manufactured in Portugal. Any Rukka garments that have no "made in _____" tags at all were certainly made in Portugal.

If you've never worn one of their jackets, you're really in no place to judge. It's like finding fault with someone for buying an expensive luxury sports car. You can buy four $25,000 cars, but you won't experience the quality & performance that you would from one $100,000 car.

Anyway, with Rukka, what you're paying for is painstaking R&D, high-tech materials, supreme fit and Finnish (tm).

More like a base F-150 vs a F-250 XLT lol

You have no basis for comparison unlike redrum, who owns a rukka. Id trust his assessment of the quality over someone who's never even tried a rukka on.

Fuck Rukka and their slave labor force.

If I wanted slave labor goods, I'll pay slave labor prices.

I've never had Rukka in my hands to try on. Six of my friends have Klim Badlands and Badlands Pro gear. One of them HAS had Rukka in his hands before but went with the Klim because of the fitment.

Three of them had Rev'it Sand suits. Two zipper failures during normal use. They all bitched about liners. One had seam failure in his pants as he low sided on pavement at 35-40.

One of the guys got tapped by a pickup on i80 after it sideswiped a car. No scratches, but he'd managed to get down to about 30mph. Gear was scuffed, he still wears it.

Numerous offroad getoffs across the board. I'll be joining the Klim Klub next season.

There's a guy who is a member of ADVRider who just had a weird crash on 80 in Vacaville. Was wearing a 'Stitch and came off at 70-75, Went through TWO barb wire fences. Almost got his head cut off but only has puncture wounds on the rest of him. Oh, and a compressed vertebrae.

Seriously, this thread has gotten stupid.

OP was looking for a good deal on a summer jacket, meanwhile, Rukka is best known for their cold/wet-weather gear. I can't speak to their warm-weather gear at all, but I'll wager the quality is just the same. That Rev'it Woodbury jacket might hold up just as well as a Rukka AiRider in a crash... just sayin - the thing looks like a Members Only jacket from the 80s :laughing

Here's a cool-crash-story-bro I found, attesting to "Rukka being worth it":

^ thanks for sharing with your own experience as well as a report from someone who field tested a rukka. :thumbup

NewtFrewt, there's a Rukka for sale in classifieds if you're still on the hunt. :)

I took the plunge before Xmas as an early present to myself. I will go on record saying Rukka is definitely worth it. By far the best textile jacket I have ever owned. What is not worth it is buying from a U.S. Retailer. You can save a ton of money by buying directly from a German/Netherlands online retailer and have a ton more options (only a small fraction of the Rukka line is offered in the U.S.). I got mine new for $300 bucks. I couldn't find another jacket with a Gore-Tex Z liner and a Cordura 500 shell for that price in the U.S.

On a side note, their jackets seem to skew on the tall and lean side. Which fits me great. This is the first time, I have been able to wear a properly fitting size 50 that actually fits my 6' 2" frame. I can't stand American cut stuff.
