This kinda sums it up tho...
We'd just hustled our awful-big-for-these-britches-bikes back out out of a deep and fairly narrow sandy bottomed rock-strewn canyon ... so damn close to success in our search of some hot springs in the mountains above Walker Lake. And Dimitry was motivated--believe me! We'd been so, so close, but our energy and skills were about tapped in the deep sand with these heavy bikes. The three of us enjoyed a break with a big bottle of beer and tasty tortilla chips (thanks to Reama's generosity!), justified saving this prize for another day, and turned our bikes around and climbed back out. Once back up on the ridge trail, we took a breather and took in the pretty setting sun and thought about the BBQ, cold beer, and buds that were waiting for us at Joe's Tavern. With Paul and Dimitry.

What happened to Jake after the tricycle race? All I remember seeing was him running by us carrying the tricycle. After that, he disappeared, and I didn't see him for the rest of the time I was there.
