s2000 buying advice?

Honestly go with a first gen if you can find one.

Parents going to sell there soon. Dad is prepping it now, probably ready to sell in a month. 2000 s2000 with 30k miles. I actually think the mileage is less.

OK, so drove both gens, but it was separated by some time. I thought the first gen was a fair bit stiffer, but I wasn't sure if I was imagining it. Thanks.

Being a guy who has worked on them... would you own one or steer clear?

You know I'm a Corvette guy right? I like torque for effortless cruising and nice wide powerbands. Plus I'm not a roadster guy. And I'm almost 6'4" so a car like that is just a wee bit too small. Professionally, it's a pretty safe bet if the car hasn't been beat on. But transmissions and rear ends are not too keen to abuse/extra power on those S2000s.

Could've been typical barf and even though you asked about a specific car, I say well just get a Corvette convertible. But it really is a much bigger feeling car so even though it easily outperforms the S2000, it just doesn't handle the way you'd be looking for. Like comparing a CBR600RR to a CBR1100XX.

there was an old guy here in CV who put together an s2000, I forget which year, 15k miles with suspension and a Paxton, dialed in, he said, to "eat Corvettes."
He wanted $32k. If you are serious, I'll knock on his door and see if he's still got. They take their cars seriously around here.
:ride

32k for a used Honda. Yeah, go for that one. You can get a low mileage c6 for that money.
You could probably get a Cayman for close to that money. A nice boxster if you are a chick and like spending money

Yep, but I also recall that you worked on Honda/Acura professionally, and you seem to be a straight shooter, and willing to share advice an opinions rooted in that experience. I do sincerely appreciate that. :cool :thumbup

As for vettes, I've seen you recommend them enough that I've gone and driven a few (a couple of C5 convertibles and a C6). I definitely liked the C6 a bunch better, but you summed it up perfectly... it's a bigger feeling car, and much better as a hardtop than roadster IMO.

It's older than I'd been looking for, but maybe. When he's ready to sell, shoot me a message.

If that is the case, you won't feel bad for beating it up.

It's probably pretty beat already. I know the fiberglass on those early vipers cracked pretty easy my buddies dad had that same model and a gtsr. Yes a gtsr

I have. I like em better than the NC. Better road manners, quieter on the road whether top up or down. They're pretty nice, but they're also like $35k. That's what my wife wants. I'm just unconvinced that I want to spend that on a car right now.

$35K?? fuck that then.

My GTS was fine. Depends if you watch out for curbs or not. Also if you close/open the hood like a caveman or not.

Rick, I'd chose the C6 over the S2000 every time...

That being said, there's a 2007 charcoal silver in San Antonio that goes up for auction on the 11th. 49K miles. Looks to be 3.8/5 condition (good for an older car). MMR shows $19.5K, so add another $400 of auction fees and about $750 to get it here with no buy fees.
