Hey all,

I'm NOT headed up to the city on Friday night for a concert, but I'm a little worried about parking my bike outside the venue while I'm in the show. Do you guys have any tips/tricks about parking to keep my bike secure?

PS, I'm NOT headed to The Independent, the area map is NOT attached.

Its a little sad to say, but after living here for 5 years, I still don't know how to use the public transportation once I get into the city... I can manage my way on bart or caltrain, but I'll be lost once I get there lol

look for MC parking on Hayes between divis and broderick. There are a few striped spots for MCs, and, if those are full, some short curb sections between driveways where cars can't fit.

If you can't find any on that block, head north one block to grove and look for parking there. There are a bazillion tiny little 2 foot curb sections in a row between driveways.

DRZs are a very hot item in the city right now. Lots of thefts. I recommend bringing a disk lock, just in case.

Cab. Cheaper than the deductible on your insurance.

Try to squeeze your bike into a spot near the front doors where people are watching and waiting.

And use some extra locks.

secure & safe is asking alot unless you find a neighborly person willing to let you share their garage.

however, you should be able to park right in front of the venue no problem. I'd disc and chain lock it at that location.

Thanks for the replies. I have a disc lock, but no chain lock. I might pick one up for this kind of situation. Is a parking garage any safer than the street?

I think I'm decided on caltrain (thanks for the help.) But, I still have to ride to the station in Santa Clara. Think its safer to park there, with just a disc lock and the forks locked?

An attended garage in the city would probably be fine. I wouldn't leave my moto parked outside in SF or Santa Clara for any length of time, regardless of locks. Thieves can just lift it up and throw it in a truck or van.

DRZ...The Shitty....after dark....
Wouldn't do it....Can't think of a show worth my bike. :thumbdown

This is the exact case I'm afraid of...

If only the girlfriend wasn't taking her car out of town =\

I'll figure something out, looks like the bike has to sit alone in the garage that night.

To start.. you probably shouldn't put the location/time/date of when you won't be attending to your bike on a public forum.

"Hi, Can anyone tell me how to securely lock my house? I have many valuables and no one will be home. I will be gone from Aug 22 through Aug 28, my address is 1234 Park Place..."

Good point... That was a pretty dumb move. :laughing

Thankfully all these friendly Barfers have changed my mind about trying to take the bike at all.

Fixed. Much safer now. lol.

4 or 5 moto spaces at Grove and Scott, right on Alamo Sq. At end of street so moto headlights are constantly displaying. I know you wouldn't park there, but if someone did, I think there are signposts within range for a person with a long chain. Also moto parking at Scott/Divis. That's my hood, so I think nothing of parking in either of those places, but I don't have a DRZ either.

Kungfusansu also has good advice.

And a chain around a steel pole and a cover...

Aren't any of your friends going to the same show?
Do you have a car?
Do they?

My bike is either in the garage or within sight...always.

:teeth

My friends wanted to go, but the tickets are sold out, I don't know if their going to try to get a couple from a scalper or not.

My Ol' lady has our car out of town for the weekend...

I'm going to borrow my friends El Camino and take public transportation where I can.

Mine too, usually, this was a special case that I was considering.

Lol! I just quoted you as having good advice in your own thread! Maybe you should take your own advice. If you have lived in the Bay Area more than a year it's about time you learned how to use the public transit systems. They ain't perfect, but they work pretty reasonably if you don't have to rely on them every day. And it is a "spare the air" day after all!
