When you re-register it as a salvage they take your existing pink slip and sent you a new one that has "salvage" in the vehicle history in the upper right box.
I just went through the process itself. If it was recently salvaged, they may still have the old title, so it's not a guarantee that it's not salvaged just b/c they have a pink that's blank. I had my salvage title for 6 mo before I got around to doing the paperwork with the dmv after the CHP inspection. They took the old title at the time of the vehicle inspection and I got the new one in the mail about 2 months after dropping off the CHP inspection form with the DMV
