Second bike, same model?

Long story short my bike has been in and out of the shop for the last three month (different issues). Mainly waiting for parts, and will be in a shop for at least another week and a half waiting for .... parts.

Commuting in a car sucks, and I would like to do more track days. With only one bike if I crash that would be pretty bad. So I was kicking an idea around of getting a second bike, but only one I really like is the same model I have now.... Crazy? Should I expand my horizons?

Actually I wouldn't mind a street triple, but hard to find those used.

Get something different, I could understand if you lost the bike completely and wanted to replace it, but as an additional bike it seems like the 2nd bike will just collect dust if it is the same. Who knows you might like the new bike better.

So I'm thinking you ride a Dayto 675? Use that for the track, and get something a bit more humane for the street. Monster? S3? you should be able to pick one up used for a decent price........

Quit spying on me! :laughing

I actually looked in to Ducati Monster, but I think have seen anything in my price range. Below self imposed 5.5k limit.

There are so many good and fun bikes out there. You could find all kinds of stuff for under 5.5K. Show a little imagination. A quick look at CL shows about 175 bikes listed for between 5K and 5.5K, and five Monsters for below 5.5K.

Yeah I think I saw some of them. Including a 2007 620... From googling, didn't they stop production in 2006? Also the ones I saw were air cooled. How well will those work during summer months?

Why not get a dedicated commuter? The Versys is a really versatile (hence it's name), cheap, fun bike. It may not be the sexiest or the fastest bike, but it has a great seating position and is nimble enough to get through traffic like a hot knife through butter.

Did I also mention that they're cheap???

:wtf Srsly? Look around you when you're out on the road and take note of all the aircooled bikes.

Just to be clear, I'm not schilling for Monsters, or Ducatis, just for trying something else. My guess is you like what you have because you're accustomed to it, not because you have a basis for comparison. Over the past five years I've had something like 8 bikes. Some here are bigger bike sluts than me. ALL of them were fun. No two of them were the same.

Expand. Expand, expand, expand.... Preferably toward a dual sport / supermoto. There is a reason everybody is drinking the kool-aid.

My commute is not that long, and I don't want a dedicated commuter. I still want something I can take in to the mountains and have fun on.

My apologies, I never had air cooled bike. My current and last bikes were water cooled and during summer I saw how the temps shot up at the lights. You are probably right I am probably just got accustomed to my current bike. I did have SV650s that I sold. Between uncomfortable riding position, crappy suspension and brakes it just wasn't fun to ride compared to the bike I have now. Interestingly I did get a chance to ride bonivile on couple of occasions. Not something I see myself riding frequently or owning but it was a fun ride.

I sold my 2008 695 with 4k miles for 5500 earlier this week. Look out, you'll find one.

Air cooled monster ended up being the most fun for me. I Picked up goody for only $3k on CL.

Well I went and got a second bike. It is not the same model. It's a water-cooled Harley, or something like that. :laughing Actually fun to ride around, even thought it is rough around the edges. I just need to replace the mirrors. They are pure crap. I mean they make sport bike mirrors look usable by comparison.

My other bike is still in the shop.... I had a chance to ride it today, and then back to the shop it went, because it was stalling at the light. I think it's getting worse... :wtf I should writeup the whole thing from the beginning to the end.

What would be something like that? It's a V-Rod or it isn't.
