I was interviewing a local rider for a research paper and he used this term to refer to sunday morning ride members from decades past. Could anyone explain this name to me? Is this pertinent to the sunday morning ride or just old dude lingo(he's 82)?

I would say if he used it in the context of "we were a bunch of scamps" he was describing a bunch of what we now might refer to as punks :dunno

The term "scamp" was used in his context as a brief jaunt, little fast ride, run around, etc. You don't hear it that way anymore, as it transformed later (1940's) to slang for a person of lower moral values; a slutty person. It was also used to describe a fast little horse in the 1800's. Later applied also to a female dog (bitch) who was roaming the neighborhood looking for a Dog to mate with.

We took our motorcycles out for a scamp on Sunday morning.

That dog is a little scamp, I saw her in the alley way again last night.

Scamp = Scoundrel = Hoodlum = Hooligan = Rogue = Rascal

Old English words had class. Now adays its the "B", "F" and the "MF" words.

Oddfire

I don't think "scamp" ever fit the Sunday Morning Riders, very well...so I'd call it a mis-use of terms.

There were super skilled riders, and hooligans, and an occasional squid (squid population may of risen after My time)...

This was coming from someone who was part of the ride for many years to my understanding. I guess it only matters in the eye of the beholder.

Dag-nabitt!

/We used to call it a 'burn', as in "wanna go for a burn?"

I keep thinking of the Disney movie, Lady and the Tramp.
There's a song in it that says "she was a scamp, a vamp and a bit of a tramp......"
Then again, Canadians say "going for a scoot."...meaning ride (as opposed to rubbing their butt along a carpet).:laughing

How are the interviews going?
