Sonoma County OKs 1-year boost in rural road funding
By BRETT WILKISON
THE PRESS DEMOCRAT

Sonoma County supervisors Tuesday unanimously backed a one-year, $8 million increase in road funding and a search for additional tax revenue to boost long-term road maintenance.

The moves were intended to address a reconstruction backlog of nearly $1 billion and tamp down public furor over the beleaguered state of county-maintained roads.

Under a 2010 plan, about 84 percent of the 1,382-mile network has been slated for only basic repairs, meaning that portion of the system ultimately would be allowed to crumble and become gravel.

...

Road funding advocates welcomed the one-time funding boost, which would roughly double the county's annual contribution to road upkeep, to $15.5 million in 2012-2013...

...already, 53 percent of the 1,382-mile network needs reconstruction, at a estimated cost of $926 million over the next 10 years, county officials say.

[Sarcasm on]

Yes, let's cut taxes even more, all the way to zero, because that's how we create jobs and improve our infrastructure.

[Sarcasm off]

The infrastructure is collapsing. The nation as a whole will soon follow. The downward spiral into chaos is underway and nothing will stop it. Party on Wayne. Party on Garth.

Great idea, Boss. But, who do I sell my sportpile to, if we are all buying dualies, and dualies? I hate my current street bike on junk roads, btw. (Not a good sales pitch, I guess).

There have been no tax cuts at the state or county level, ever.

Sell my sport bike and get a dual sport? Did it two years ago. I actively search for rough roads now. :cool

I propose keeping the sprotbile and adding a dual-sport bike to the garage.

For some rides/routes the sprotbile rules.

For other rides/routes the dual-sport rules.

You will have to pry my '98 VFR out of my cold and rigor mortised dead hands - I will *never* sell this thing. Ever.

That said, I wouldn't mind a DRZ400SM to supplement it.

I fully agree with the above statements. That being said, I'm offering special care taking service for all VFR400's and CBR400's that are being shelved in lieu of dual sports. Please contact me for further instructions...

Release the motards!!!!!

:thumbup:thumbup:thumbup :ride:ride:ride :thumbup:thumbup:thumbup

And...there is another item....Alter the freakin Sport bike...it wasn't made for the individual...
The individual can do a few items to make it right for where they use it.

I know, I haven't said it often enough....Street fighter handle bars...Scotts Stablizer (damper)...and suspension internals for rough roads. (Race Tech did mine).

Result is Hyper Faux Tard versitility...and the power OMG the power.

I'll be offering the same fine service for all gray market 2-strokes. :teeth

haha..... there are so many awesome roads perfect for dual sports / supermotos from marin sonoma napa

any bike with less than 50hp would be ideal.....

stay on 9 bishes

The thing that scares me are the roads that have the groove going down them. Like a bowling alley gutter you almost get sucked into it. That and the foot deep pothole you hit at night and the impact goes all through your body.
