Thoughts?

While they are DOT, Shark helmets are not Snell certified. Specifically the Modulars. I have heard great things about their air flow and modulars. as in, you can ride with the front up with no buffeting, and the wind not trying to peel your head off your body.

I tend to ride a lot of distance miles, and 100 a day commuting. East Bay, cool air is at a premium.

I have heard rave reviews on the Shark Modulars. I do not like the feel of the Arai and Shoei modulars. I have heard good things about that one pricey Goldwing and BMW helmet manufacturer (cough Schuberth)..... however I have not turned 70 yet.

Looks cheap however never tried one on in person

OP: You should educate yourself on helmet certifications. Just because a helmet may have a SNELL cert doesn't mean you are any safer than a non-SNELL.

i've been wearing a vision-r for a couple of years. i've never crash tested it but it's comfortable and has good airflow. excellent field of vision too.

I have had two Shark RSI helmets, and both were very well made and very comfortable. I didn't crash test either of them, but I am confident that they are every bit as good as the big boys (based on the Sharp testing results). I rarely buy any helmet without checking its performance on the Sharp site.

I've been looking at the EVOline series. Just haven't had the need to burn money on yet ANOTHER helmet. The styling looks great and definitely not cheap.

Find a sales Joint, look at them, If you like the fit and look, buy it.

I can't believe , if it passes the test to buy it, You would be sorry that you had bought it.

I had a Shark RSR2 that I loved and I just bought a Race R Pro and so far no complaints.

I've been using a Shark Race R Pro Carbon for the last 18 months. They are very well made .. I would say better made than my Shoei's have ever felt. They are super comfortable with a very decent, wide view. I wouldn't give up my Shark for anything.

It's kind of funny that folks say they look cheap and don't get the EU ratings. I guess all those BSB and WSBK guys are just crazy for wearing cheap junk with bad ratings, eh? heh.

Having recently been given my first flip-front helmet, by a friend - a Shoei Multitec, this surprises me. They're probably the best built of all the modular helmets. Arai don't make modular helmets.

There's also considerable debate on this side of the pond about whether or not Snell is a good standard for helmets for road use. If I remember correctly, they prioritise penetration resistance at the cost of dissipating impact energy.

Based on the title of the thread, I am still disappointed that it wasn't about any of these things:

My Shark Speed-R Sauer is one of my favorite helmets. Far from "cheap." Build quality is very good.

My GF and I have a pair of Shark RSIs. Never crash tested, but my favorite helmet to date. They come stock with an anti-fog shield, and their fit happens to be damn good for my head.
I'd love to find a place in the Bay that still stocks 'em; ours were at SF CG but they don't carry 'em anymore.
