I currently have a Arai RX7 and looking to purchase another helmet. I'm having a hard time decidng between the Shoei RF-1000 and the Suomy Spec-1R.

Anyone have any personal experiences with either brands?

Suomy is much lighter plus cooler designs

Suomy fit waaaay better than Shoei, and they are MUCH Lighter

I have a Shoei and a Suomy. Both have the same head shape so you should be good there (if you know you can wear one, you can wear both).

I wear my Suomy at the track. I was surprised how nice a helmet it was compared to the Shoei and for a cheaper price.

Suomy fits my head better than a Shoei...
I'm planning on picking a a Suomy as my next helmet... com'n tax return :teeth

I should have said "about" the same. My Suomy is actually a tad more comfortable than my Shoei, but both are far bettr than Arai and AGV's on my noodle :)

Which one have you tried on?

I wear a 8-1/4 hat so I'm limited to what fits.

Great designs, lighter, cooler feature are... um, cool, but whatever fits best is always the best choice in my book.

I tried on both the Shoei RF-1000 and Suomy Spec-1R. Both lids fit well and the weight of both were fine. I totally agree that proper fit is the best choice and that is why I have the dilemma of trying to choose between the two.

I have an Rx-7, suomy spec 1R extreme, and a Scorpoion exo 1000. I had a Rf1000.
comparing the suomy and shoei, i love the suomy. It's lighter and more comfortable. For me, the rf-1000's cheek pads were a bit stiff and the suomy were much softer making it more comfortable for me. Also, the suomy had a lot more wind noise compared with the shoei due to the vents. If i compared all 3, the confort of the rx-7 wins hands down. But the scorpion has way less wind noise compared to all 3.

I have two Shoeis (TZR and Z2) and one Suomy (Vandal). The Suomy seems to fit my head the best. The Z2 fits me a little better than the TZR does - the TZR doesn't seem extend quite as low in the chin.

Ventilation on the Z2 is stellar. TZR comes next, then the Suomy.

Shoei shields are easier to replace than the one on my Suomy.

Shoei X-11 FTW! :teeth

I have a Spec1r that I really like, but the Shoei was easier to change shields and you could close the vents. Plus in my 100mph+ getoff it protected my head just fine. Looking forward to getting another one.

BTW, check www.motoworldonline.com . They are a barf sponsor and have great prices with the barf discount and great service. :thumbup

It's a matter of personal preference and fit. I personally have a Shoei RF-1000 in matte black. The Shoei fit and the Suomy didn't work. Your going to have to try them both on see which one works for you. So, in my case I'm going to rave about the Shoei and piss on the Suomy. Others will do vice versa. :ride

I <3 my Suomy.
