Shop refusing to work on a 2003 moto?!?!?!

Once upon a time, the only people who rode were those who could wrench. And if a bike lasted 5 years before needing major work, it was considered a miracle. Times have changed.

I've been DIY since day 1 of my moto days tho my DIY car days precede that. I cannot fathom not being hands with your own motorcycle.

Sure, there can come a point when a person (not me :twofinger :p ) gets in over their head, but getting bent about someone refusing to work on a 15 year old motorbike kinda makes me laugh.

So what happens when your caliper has rusty hardware and a bolt snaps off? Tires? Easy. Oh wait, your wheel bearings are garbage and you don't want to buy new ones because "they never did that before". The banjo fitting hasn't been touched in years and now won't seal again and it's a weird angle because the previous owner installed some bars from a Dyna? When the clutch cable refuses to move again once it's been pulled from its current alignment and there isn't one available except on eBay and it's four days out and you still want H-D warranty because "it wasn't like that before". Oh and the easy pull has a different size barrel at the ends and now there's play in the lever. But online it said it was for this bike! Look at my phone, it says so right there!

But... but.. no. My bike doesn't have any of those problems. It would be easy. I know for certain!

Sure you do.

Maybe worth the headache for some, definitely not for others. Sounds like they were right to turn you away. You refuse to try to see the other side of the story and would end up being a multiple time comeback for some pile of a sporty that they didn't want to touch in the first place.

except the sporty has barely changed... and harley carries all those parts in stock. Just go to the parts counter, I get gaskets and parts for my pops' 1997 Evo powered HD all the time.

Did you even read my post? It's far less about the parts interchangeability and much more about the age. And for the record an 03 883r does have a good amount of it's own parts. You Harley guys are hilarious.

Mike at Half Nelson (415) 517-5614 one of a few last good independent HD wrenchers :thumbup

no i didn't read your post when i replied to it by saying that harley carries the parts you're referring to not being in stock...

also its is spelled its when it's possessive... but I guess i didn't read this post either

If a scooter repair shop told customers their scoot was too old or broken for the shop to work on, they'd be out of business that very same day.
