Short Levers

I just installed some CRG shorties on the RSV4 and will probably install some on the Speed Triple eventually.

Nothing wrong with the stockers, but I broke the end off the brake lever while moving it around my garage. Decided it was a good excuse to replace them. I like the way they look, they feel better to me overall, and I like the adjustability.

Some mentioned it... ergonomics. I've noticed that some after-market levers are curved further closer to the grips, this makes it easier for those with smaller hands to get a firm grip.

Otherwise, it's aesthetics. But hey, if you can afford them, why not? :)

From a female riders perspective...

I have a 2009 gixxer 600 that have regular length pazzos on them. Love them. Had changed them out mainly because the stock levers are just too big for my smaller hands. Size wise and feel...pazzos work for me. This bike will now be track only.

Next bike I bought is my 2011 triumph bonneville...didn't like those stock so went with ASV regular length. Dealer recommended the ASV over pazzos for hat bike. Actually like they have wayyyy more adjustability than the pazzos which is great for the Bonnie as getting that right feel for the clutch was hard.

Newest bike. A used 2009 gixxer 750. Previous owner had put on CRG shorties...humph. Don't like them. I have gotten used to brake lever but the clutch lever not so much. I need to use more than 2 fingers to clutch ..brake usually ok with 2. I feel like I am clunkier when shifting as sometimes I miss the extra lever to pull in he clutch..I "misfire" my execution of a shift more with the shorty.
I will replace these eventually with regular somethings. Not sure yet if I wold go with pazzos, asv or crg...but fo sho regular.

For me...would rather have the extra length there if ya ever need to use more than a finger or two but the extra length shouldn't get in the way if u do only use a few..I would think.

I have shorties on the brake side and standard length on the clutch side. I only 2 finger brake, but sometimes 4 finger clutch when commuting in the city. So my choice is functional based. Plus I like the feel of the shorty brake lever because it feels like less material to move around. Subtle, but noticeable.

its true.. data acquisition showed the brake lever engaging ever so slightly at the end of long straights while riders are still on the gas

:rofl And you don't know that the racer has an incentive to heat the brakes at that end of the straight where they are going to get off the gas and be applying the brakes while turning ( called trail braking) And their finesse at that, is a major advantage to have over the competition that is also braking at the entrance to the apex.

You can be braking while still on the gas.

You can be braking while still on the gas.
Oh, facepalm. I didn't even think of that. What makes it even more ironic, is my style is all trail braking and rolling on gas while still braking. I almost never finish slowing down until I am way into a corner.

Nothing wrong with stock levers. The Magura one on my KTM is real nice, and the stock Brembos on both the KTM and Ducati front brakes are pretty nice pieces. Why would you say they are crap?

Pretty sure he was just refering to the garden variety crap levers...not the fine levers that are stock on fine bikes.

It's like most (or a lot) of things. .. Blanket statements are wrong. :laughing

:thumbup You do it right..So what I'm about to say, is for the others reading, that aren't aware of this.

You have, at an earlier time, thought of it, done it, placed into your subconscous where it's done,..
Without conscously thinking about it. That's freeing up your conscous mind, to 100% sensing the job at hand...Traction on the surface for getting used in two ways at the same time... And not exceeding the total amount available... But not leaving un-used, that the other racer can use, to their advantage.
