If the feds were doing this to me, I certainly would.

Gibson Guitar Corp., a big user of ebony and other scarce woods, for years has allied itself with Greenpeace and other environmental groups to show it was serious about preserving forests.

That didn't stop the Nashville-based company, whose guitars are used by such musicians as B.B. King and Angus Young of AC/DC, from running afoul of U.S. authorities over allegedly illegal imports of wood. Though no charges have been filed, Gibson factories have been raided twice, most recently last week, by federal agents who say ebony exported from India to Gibson was "fraudulently" labeled to conceal a contravention of Indian export law.

The Feds are just trying to make sure that every aspect of manufacturing in the US is demolished.

No, allegedly this wood is illegal because it wasn't hand finished by Indians before shipping.

Epic, eh? The US government will do their best to kill a US company to save a 50 cent a day job in a developing nation, but has no problem exporting millions of its own jobs.

How much of the worlds fancy wood supply does an expensive guitar company really use up? I bet Ghadafi has more of that wood in his toilet paper than gibson in their wearhouse.

Fuck greenpeace. Gibson should make guitars out of whale just to piss those assholes off.

+10122312414 Disgusting... yes, let's crack down on our own businesses using foreign laws... goddamnit, as if there aren't enough shitty laws here...

I don't care what Mel Gibson does after his Hollywood career finishes. He is more than welcome to make his guitars in India. That's where most of American jobs are anyway :x

P.S. All of you with sandy panties in a bunch. What US government is doing is upholding the law. The same way we demand other governments confiscate illegal copied software and movies in other countries. Gibson guitar guys ran foul of the Indian law to save some money and got caught. No need to blame the government about this.

Government jobs are still held by Americans. The same cannot be said for private sector. And since 9/11 is close enough, let me tell you about the slimy CEO of the company I was working for. He sent out a long melodramatic email about how much he loves US and we shall overcome BS. In two months, he had laid off 20% of the jobs and sent them overseas to save money. Auto-blaming government for everything that goes wrong in your life is barking up the wrong tree.

Debbie Gibson is way hotter in every way than her dumbass cousin Brittany Spears. She also had an awesom live concert recording of Crocodile Rock.

It's more like US government will make sure that some poor schmuck in a development nation will die from cancer from working a 50 cent a day job refinishing wood, getting exposed to carcinogenic chemicals all day, every day. As opposed to folks in the US doing this in a much more regulated and environmentally friendly way, albeit at higher cost.

Gandeep will still live longer inhaling that stuff 17 hrs/day than the rest of his people who die of syphalis or staff or whatever you get when you fall into the community poo lake.

Goddamnit now I want this:

That too.

You think this place is going to be any better when we can't borrow any more and nobody produces anything?

Nah,
I was being sarcastic or facetious or some other word like that. I think it's BS to punish a true US company over some stupid trees.

I once sold guitars and the few Gibsons I tried were much nicer than the fine Squier stratocaster I personally owned.

lulz @ current administration's affects on businesses and our economy! Jimmy Carter must really be relieved he's no longer the worst American President in history. :laughing

Please god no don't let this happen. Look at the brand dilution (not to mention the hit in sound quality) Fender suffered when they went away from "American-made".
